I am not going to argue these two points with you Alex, since we have done so in the past, and neither of us are going to change our positions.

Yes.

The U.N. is VERY interested in telling countries what to do internally, as of yet they have not been very effective at it. I would like this to remain the case.

I believe the UN was formed with a charter, not a treaty.

I'm really surprised you believe Iraq was a threat to the United States.  They're 7,000 miles away.  They're navy consists of a few patrol boats.

They're only long range weapon, the SCUD was pretty much used used up during the Gulf War, and even those only had a range of 375 miles (again, the US is 7,000 miles away).

Their Air Force was discovered buried in the sand.

Was it their "weapons of mass destruction" program that made you scared enough to support a war at a cost of a hundred billion dollars and thousands of lives???

By now, it has been shown in this forum that Bush lies an awful lot; it's probably not smart to agree with everything he says, just because he says it.

When I first saw Bowling for Columbine, I disagreed with Michael Moore when he said America is a country full of chicken-shits.  But since 9/11, it's clear that this is the case, and this post further shows how that is the case.  How can we be scared of Iraq?  We wiped out their army in 1991.

Books are now being written about how this fear is being used to control American society.  I wish people were a little braver (and smarter).  :frown:

And it looks like the scare tactics are already getting us scared about WMD all over again...

Believe what you want to Cornholio. The majority of Americans sided with the President on this issue, and they believed him as well. Your accusations of his lieing have not been proven at all. Saddam represented a major threat to America. Maybe not on the day we attacked him, but in the future most definately. That is why we took him out before the threat was imminent. All you libbies love to claim that Bush said he was an imminent threat, but you have been proven wrong. You kill a snake before it bites you, not afterwards. I will conced the UN loophole is kind of weak in this case, but I was just saying what was said. Furthermore, you did not address Clinton's action of not even going to the UN before Kosovo. We are a sovereign nation, and are ultimate alliance is to ourselves.

A nation so poor and mishandled economically prevented a threat to the US in the future?

And thats why we attacked them? It wasnt about dropping 300k troops in the arab neighborhood and showing them how powerful we were to get them to shape up and do what we want them to?

I find this very hard to believe. How were they going to threaten us, again? They were an economic mess, I doubt they could AFFORD to make WMDs.

Hahahaha. Saddam was never an economic mess. He starved his people so he could build a dozen palaces.

He endured economic sanctions for over a decade to continue a weapons program that we cannot find any evidence of.

Iraq WAS and IS an economic mess. One big reason being he did build his palaces. Those things arent paltry 1million dollar mansions, you know.

So how could he have made WMDs in that shithole? He couldn't, but demanded them anyway. His people lied to him, and thats how we have intelligence saying they existed. Even down to the locations.

pinksharkymark or whatever posted a really good article about that possibility, I'll try to dig it up.

I understand what you are saying and agree with it. We went in on the intelligence most of the agencies in the world thought was correct. I personally think he moved them somewhere else. That does not mean he was not a threat.

The agreed he had WMDs, and thought that 12 more years of diplomacy was the way to go.

If you can afford a solid-gold toilet then you can afford a bottle of anthrax. You just have to prioritize.

Hussein's priority was personal power.
