Can someone please confirm this as an edible mushroom? It was found near my buddy's contam'd cake compost pile, alone.. *PS: The stem has a blue bruise.. oxygen reaction? Any help on identification would be greatly appreciate. -Merlin

No rotting mushroom (or rotting anything, for that matter) of any kind should be considered edible. Eating rotting food is how you get food poisoning.

Is it REALLY in a stage of rot, or might it be "pre-rotting"? It doesn't SEEM *too* ROTTEN.

its not rotting, beleive me, i know rotting mushrooms, thats just cracking and splitting due to sudden drop in humidity and (probably) the contam. but then if mushrooms fruited, then the contam was benign enough that i wouldn't worry, it was defeated my the mycelium in the outdoor environment, i would eat that and think nothing of it (except for y'know, the trip and stuff), i find wild mushrooms like that and even ones FAR more twisted, rot would look and feel rotten, probably smell like shit too. that one is just odd looking from imperfect grow parameters, theres no maggots, the gills are healthy (better than most wild shrooms) and its technically stll alive, you could grow an isolate from the core if so inclined, rotten indeed. look, the mushroom he picked isn't so bad, what it needs is a little love charie brown

yeah. that specimen dosen't look that bad. if an indoor fruit looked like that and the humidity was alright i'd say it might be bacteria, but i thik it's fine if it doesn't smell bad.

I would say that the mushroom is perfectly edible.. just clean it off some for fuck's sake.

Uhhh... let's see... it briuses blue/green, has a purple veil and a purple brown spore print(you can see the spores on stem). Aside from that it was growing from a compost of known spent cubensis spawn. Caps get ragged and lose their color when they've been in the sun for a long time. Other than the obvious signs, I've just got 1337 cub3 skillz(aka common sense).
