Any thoughts from you experienced aegerita growers on whether this species could do well cased in a monotub?

I was thinking of trying that next time. Seems a bit messy though, soaking the whole thing plus cleaning the tubs (for a small commercial setup I mean). I made "monotubs" grow but I kept the bags on the block. So basicly 6 substrate per tub. I think it's the way to go [for small project] with these as they grow OK with low air exchange and they attract fruit flies. Bug prevention.

Thanks everyone for adding a couple advices here, I will reconsider growing sterilized substrates but I will difinitively need at least one more AA921!

AGREE WITH BP. Try it like this
just be careful that the FP doesn't touch the substrate. Once colonized cut the front out of the bags and case. It works great for kings and poplars and prolly anything else that gets cased BUT it takes up more room, esp if your shelf design is for bags standing up.

Oh, so I imagine you get more pins this way since you have more substrate surface for the same amount of substrate. I like that if it's the case.
Thank you very much for sharing.

Hmmm... good ideas there

Lovely grows guys, it's shocking how much these look like Psilocybes in their pin stage. That thick annulus is so amazing. What temps are you guys fruiting these at?

Won't pin for shit above 70 degrees. Pins and fruits best in the 55-60 range. I actually posted that one picture on the growing mushrooms forum next door to freak people out. The we're like " awesome grow dude can I get a print of those?"

So basically, in the dead of winter I can grow these
Do you think, with a ridiculous amount of patience, you can genetically train some AA's to grow in hot temps? I think it would require fruiting some in warmer temps, then slowly increase the temps each generation, but not cloning or isolating, you would have to keep going from spore to fruit for 'learning' to take place.. just a random thought.
What about Beech? They have a low temp preference?

They have done it with shiitake. They have pushed the limits of both temp extremes. You da man!

Hey
I am new to this so bear with me.
I just bought my first bag with Agrocybe spawns. Never done this before.
I put it in my bathroom. Temperature is 22 C.
I dont have a humidifier, so I need to spray them.
Any chance they fruit?
Thanks

That's about 72 degrees f. How did you process the bag? Removed? Or cut off top? That is pushing threshold temp to pin. Ideally you could hold it at a lower temp to induce pinning then move it.

They stayed for 3 days in a bag with the top cut off.
Since yesterday I removed the bag and put the content in a monotub (with no cover).
Temperature is 21c now but I dont know how to lower it down!!!
I spray them several times a day with filtered water (not tap water).
Am I doing something wrong?
If I dont make them pin in a given time can it happen that mold take over because of humidity?
Thanks

What's the brown thing? Is that regular soil?
In my experiance the mycelium turn brown a bit, but not THAT brown.

give it a shot at this point. keep it moist, not too wet. AA does pretty well in relatively high CO2. you might wanna consider some kind of lid to get the myc to grow vegetatively for a while and recolonize the substrate.

Thanks I'll do that.
Do you think I should split it in two? As there is a lot of substrate....
I'll update you in a week of two....

Got it.
Just a quick quide from the company I bought the spawn from. Is it entirely true?
See below:
Cultivation parameters:
Spawn run: Temperature: 70-80° F (21-27° C) Relative Humidity: 95-100% Duration: 20-28 days CO2: >20,000 ppm Light requirements: n/a
Primordia formation: Initiation temperature: 50-60° F (10 – 16°C) Relative Humidity: 95 – 100% Duration: 7-14 days CO2: < 2,000 ppm Light requirements: 500– 1,000 lux
Fruitbody development: Temperature: 55-65°F (13-18°C) Relative Humidity: 95 – 100 % Duration: 4 – 6 days CO2: <2,000 ppm Light requirements: 500– 1000 lux Cropping Cycle: Every 10-14 days for two flushes

Either you bought it from fp or whoever you bought it from "borrowed" Paul's info. Ime, those are pretty accurate for aa. For others the parameters he lists in his book are pretty conservative ESP on the oysters and shiitakes.

I fruited the FP strain on straw. temps were mostly in the 70's but probably dipped into the 60's at times. did it at a friend's house and he didn't have the coolmist on to exchange air enough, but despite small caps they fruited pretty nicely. strain might be worth a try.
