yeah you can use a sheet of paper if you wanted to hand fan it out.JUst aslong as there is a place where the air can escape youre ok but you still have to worry about how clean the air is that is coming out the pump because of contams.I use a fishtank air pump and I have it inside a clean/filter box so that I know all the air that is going in thw chamber is very clean.

If you're gonna hand pump several times a day, you might as well just take the top off and fan it for a few seconds. It's a lot simpler than a complicated hand pump setup and it's guaranteed to exchange air effectively.
