Denature temp for psilocybin
    #1853997 - 08/27/03 03:45 AM (20 years, 5 months ago)

I had this though earlierin a thread where Mycocakeeater was saying to boil cakes for 10 min then trip off the resulting liq. Wouldn't boiling the cakes denature the good stuff? Mycel doesn't survive much above 100 deg F but what about the psilocybin?

Psiloc(yb)in doesn't have a known breakdown temperature as far as I can tell (not that I have ever conducted experiments to find out). Temperature merely accelerates the speed in which they breakdown when exposed to oxygen. There is alot of debate about the effect heat has on psiloc(yb)in hence the whole smoking argument. Although some people don't recommend boiling, 10 minutes would be fine.

BTW denaturing in the biochemist sense applies to proteins and DNA

Peace

I heard that psilosin and psilocybin can withstand temperatures over a hundred degrees for only a short period of time (10-15 mins). Thats why all tea recipes suggest not to boil the shrooms. I know with a food deydrator...any veteran shroomer will tell you to set on the lowest setting possible if you want to retain all the potency. Im sure you can find more elaborate documents on the web.
