Hi aciddejavu, I hope you're having a good day!

I belive the gym can be a very positive and useful tool. I know many people who find enjoyment and a benefit from it

Your statement doesn't seem to have an explanation to it and I'm not sure why you came to the Physical and Mental Well-Being just to say that. My only guess is that you have recently tried using a gym to find it wasn't for you. If that is the case, that is fair enough. As with everything in this world, everyone enjoys and finds value in different activities.

Take care

Handstands for warm ups
Lat raises: 10 sets, 8 - 12 reps
OHP: 10 sets, 6 - 8 reps
Incline bench: 10 sets, 8 - 12 reps
Flat bench: 10 sets, 6 - 8 reps

Done.

Holy shit, why so many sets?

Haha for sure it does sound like a lot! Let me explain my reasonings why I train this way

I like to do 2 exercises per body part with chest and shoulders and so I do higher sets with them, rather than more exercises.

I find I make faster strength gains with this approach rather than doing say 3 sets per exercise with more exercises.
After all, this approach does fit the principles of specificity in training - you want to get a stronger bench? Do more bench.

I will stick with any 2 exercises until I feel I have gotten everything out of them before I change my routine around eg.
I will aim for set across on bench and incline bench whilst attempting to put the weight up each week. Once I get to a stage where on the last 3 or 4 sets I can't meet my rep range of 6 - 8 reps (or whatever range im using) then I will stay at the same weight the following workout and aim to get back into my rep range before I put the weight up again.
Once I start to stall with that I will then start doing some advanced techniques e.g. negatives.
Once I can't get much more out of them, then I will do a little de-load and swap the exercises up to shock the muscles e.g. to maybe weighted dips etc.

It keeps the routine simple, easily trackable for progress and specific.
But sure, it's still a lot of sets and some days I feel it would be counter productive to do so many as I may not of had enough sleep and that would burn me out. In which case I will listen to my body and do maybe 8 sets on the first exercises and then 6 on the 2nd. However 10 sets is my goal and over the next couple workouts following that I would work back to it.
So although I said 10 sets, if I'm not feeling it, I won't force it and I will listen to my body.

This all works for me very well, however it might not for others. Everyone should try different methods and see find what works well for them

ive been taking it easy on squats until my knee fully heals, ive been doing every minute on the minute with 225lb to failure each set until i start feeling sick.
feels like this works my legs harder than going heavy and normal sets.
maybe ive stumbled onto something. makes my legs incredibly sore the next day, they are shaking right now

Working on rehabbing my hip and fixing a postural issue that caused it. Decided to drop some body fat while I rehab.

Weighing around 213 and my abs are starting to peak out a little. Strength seems to be holding. I'm doing no bilateral moments currently though.

Tendonitis is a bitch. My elbow still flares up every now and again if I over do the pressing.

yeah the issue with my knee is pretty chronic but its much better since ive started lifting lighter weight. if i took a few months off completely it would heal 100% but i dont want to do that for obvious reason. so maybe i can get away with just lowering the weight but increasing intensity.

unfortunately its also aggrevated by driving and very unfortunately when i use the pedal on my piano(which im doing for hours everyday which is probably contributing to the issue)

Current best 210Kg 5 reps
Current Base(on Power days 180-200Kg 3 - 5 reps

Flat Bench
Goal: 200kg
Current Base 130kg 6-10 reps

Shoulder press
Goal: Body weight x 1.5(unrealistic Goal but would love to achieve)
Current best 80kg 5 - 8 reps
(Current body weight 90kg)

Pull ups
Goal: perfect 10 rep set with 65Kg
Current best 45-48Kg(unknown weight) 5 reps 4 sets
Current base 42kg 6 reps

Side Goals:

Weighed Dips
Goal: Body weight + 65kg perfect 4 set 12 reps
Current best 65kg 10 reps 6 perfect 4 forced
Current base 65kg 5 reps max

Barbel Curls
Goal: 80kg (unsure about weight) perfect 4 set 12 reps
Current base 60kg 4 set 6 reps(although all of these where done with another 6 reps with lighter weight so true numbers are unknown)

Hammer Curls
Goal: 40kg 4 set perfect 12 reps
Current base very unsure +- 30kg 8 reps:shrug:

Front raises

Nothing, I haven't been to the gym in so long with the lock down here in the UK. They've been closed.
I'm looking forward to when they reopen.
Wrote a new workout plan ready for it!

But for now I've been doing what I can bodyweight at home.
Today was chest and shoulders...
Handstand practise
Pike push ups
Push ups
Narrow push ups
Dips

Nice physique. Got that male model look. You going for any more size?

Those customizable dumbbells sets are really good to have at home. I imagine a singular weight is pretty limiting on what you can do.

thanks! id like to but my diet is crap, i never eat enough to bulk. sort of just stay at maintenance. also i do like having the lean-ish look so im always scared to eat too much.
when gyms opened up i was squatting 315lb past parallel at 154lb body weight so i was trying to up my ratio.
im managing to maintain my leg size with one legged pistol squats holding the bag, doing them right now coincidentally :P

EDIT:

the bag weighs anywhere from 80-100lb,just guessing because i havent weighed it, its just a gym bag with 2 large hdps water jugs and a bunch of small free weighs, the water jugs make it soft in enough areas but punctures from the weights so they start leaking (i store them in the basement where there is concrete for it to dripple on)

my routine is
1- full session of pull ups with the bag strapped to my leg, (this makes my lats and biceps sore the next day always.)

2- next day push ups with it on my back to failure for a full session, then take a weight out to make the bag softer and do skull crushers with it, and then take more weights out and a jug and then do lateral raises

3- And then the next is just a a full day of squats with it in kind of like a front squat pistol squat situation. i find the balance easier holding the weight and can go ass to grass, though in the bottom position its resting on my knee but it definitely hits the muscle groups hard on the way up. (usually quite sore in the quad, glutes and lower back with that the next day.)

ive noticed my vascularity recently coming in on my legs, its all over my calves when im training legs and am starting to see them come out on the knee cap even.:O

weighed my weighted bag finally and its 80lbs, hah so i was definitely in the ball park
im planning to stuff more weights in it once i can get small enough 5lb weights

i went to the jungle gym beside my house and did wide grip pull ups with the bag for many sets,

then back at my house i put 30lb worth of free weights in a towel and did lateral raises with it,

lol whops i said toilet not towel lmfao stonedd
