    #1851805 - 08/26/03 05:01 PM (13 years, 3 months ago)

Is there any percautions with using a heating pad? so i wont start a fire because its on 24/7. I got the outer cloth cover for the heating pad. So that might be one thing. is there any others?

You might ask yourself if you really need one. I thought about it when I first started but its really unnecessary if all is kept inside.

Buy a aquarium heater...$9.99 at wal-mart. Much safer and reliable than a heating pad.

no the heating pads are pretty safe the are ment to be used with cloth like a heating blanket.I leave my own 24/7 on a rug and I have no worries I will say this thogh keep water away from it.

I used 3 of them all last winter Fiend with no problems but you might want to put your jars on a folded up towell over the pad so it doesnt get your jars to hot...

heating pads don't dry out cakes I have both incubators and the both work just the same But the heating pad is harder to keep it at the same temp

My friend (who lives in Holland) uses reptile heaters (2) in his incubator. They are covered in non-flammable epoxy and are auto-regulated to maintain a constant temp. They reliably keep the chamber 79-81F and only need a blanket on top of the chamber in winter (incubator's in a non heated area but inside his house). No timers, water, thermostats or frequent checking. He's gone three weeks without looking inside with no problems.
Should be available at any decent pet store. Not cheap but worth the piece of mind IMO.

You can put the incubator on the heating pad so it heats the bottom...That is the best way i found to do it without drying jars out

well when you use fish tank heater you have to buy an extra container and use peroxide and water and drill holes it is easier to use a heating pad and cheaper and less of a pain in the ass to refille water and worry about leaks

heating pads are better. they are cheaper than snot and they dont break like aqaurium heaters. they are safer than heaters and less hassle says my friend.
