Gymnopilus sp. - trying to grow this sucker.

So I found a gymnopilus of some sort, bruising blue-green around the edges of the cap. It was growing on a cellar door. It looks to be a luteus to me, though it's hard to say now.

There were spider webs covering it and maggots began feasting on it before I could do anything but take spores from it.
I swiped some on to a couple plates last week.
This one is totally fucked:

But this one looks like I might have some germination of the gym spores:

Definitely some cleaning up to get done but in a short time I should know if that is indeed gymnopilus mycelium. Any experienced growers of gymnopilus species, please chime in!

Your specimen sounds like not the best candidate but what the hell. G luteus took months to germinate for me but once it did it was fairly straight forward. Once on grains I think it's advisable not to shake the jars. It takes forever to bounce back. I made sure to avoid this with my BLGs.
I wish you luck frank.

Not even sure it is a luteus or if those hyphae are even gymnopilus at all. We'll see.
I'd like to get at least one sample of healthy myc or even a healthy fruit to get a good ID on it.

if you got another print or maybe even a dried gill sample i could give it a try .
o and btw if you soak your water that your gonna use for agar in some sawdust and microwave it for a min than strain it .it may help the germination . all my gym spores usually took 3-5 days to germinate 10 days being the most (g. junonius).

You should've cloned that fruit, but if it wasn't an option... Anyhow, yes, that looks like Gymnopilus mycelium. Here's a clone on agar:

Keep up the good work. I'll certainly be keeping an eye on this thread. While active this does not appear to be to be G.luteus as it lacks the characteristic annulus of that species. So what gym species may it be ? Grows of undescribed active gyms hold a special fascination.

My spores were like 3 years old , that's why they took so long. But I like adding a little woodchip water too.It works well

Awesome work Frank. Really goes to show what you can do with some agar.
