pgp frustration
    #18503214 - 07/02/13 05:09 PM (10 years, 10 months ago)

alright, so i'm new to encryption and need some advice on the level that's intended for someone new to pgp.

basically, i use google chrome on a pc with windows 7 home premium, service pack 1 (64 bit). i have been using safe-mail up until this point, but now the people i'd like to speak to require pgp, so safe-mail isn't enough.

i've tried two tutorials in order to set up pgp for my email. the first was outdated with dead links in the file. the second one required thunderbird, which does not work with safe-mail from what i could tell. i created a gmail account in an attempt to go with thunderbird, but the .xpi file that the tutorial suggested i add to thunderbird wasn't compatible with that version of thunderbird. i added an .xpi that was compatible with thunderbird only to discover that i needed gupg add-on as well, which still doesn't allow me to access the key generator.

so in short, can someone please help send a goddamn encrypted email?

Why not just paste your encrypted message into your e-mail?

This tutorial is what I used when I was trying to figure out encryption. It breaks everything down into a simple step-by-step process. My explanation is really just gonna be a poor regurgitation of this.

Just lemme know if you're still having any trouble.

No problem, dude!

I was really overwhelmed and frustrated by the process before I found that tutorial, as well. Once you get it down, it's really pretty simple to use.

Have you used this video yet?

Im on the same page as you brother, im not too up to date on these tech things. Ive been using safemail too.

But anyways i found the vid pretty easy, the only thing i changed is one of the things i downloaded is a newer version now. so just click that.

ANyways, im not even sure if i have it all down right.

Can anyone answer this: DO I sign my own key then upload it to public server? (10:40 in video). or is that just for someone elses?

And hey millzy, if you wanna practice pgp emails once your set up im down man! I wanna make sure they actually work and are encrypted.

Hope it comes along smoother for you this time.

Download GPG4USB. It is a very easy to use version of PGP, and has a GUI interface, so it's incredibly easy to use.
