The one in the video didn't look that aggressive at all (and I believe rabies in squirrels is extremely rare).  It probably thought he was holding out food.

I'm not sure why he didn't just tell the kids to go inside.

rabies in any animal is actually rare, but it does happen and when it does
their behavior is abnormal, in rodents rabies is even more rare but it does
still happen and there's been conformed cases of rabid squirrels. imagine
you're a squirrel, your instinct is to run from humans, your instinct is to
run from humans when they pepper spray you and yet that one kept coming

ask yourself why, pepper spray isnt peanuts
