Vodkaphiles Unite!
    #1849495 - 08/25/03 07:33 PM (20 years, 7 months ago)

My list in order of favorite to least (wont list the bad ones)

#1 Ciroc (new french vodka, distilled from snap frost grapes, very smooth but a sweet taste - marrs drinks, i like it straight, or with a small bit of tonic)
#2 Grey Goose (french vodka, mixes well - little bite, very smooth - distilled from grain, not sure which.)
#3 Stolichnaya GOLD (I like stoli as well, this one hails from russia, and is the creme de la creme of stoli's, I believe it's distilled from wheat)
#4 Ultimat (one of my very favorites, but the price is overwhealming - 55$ a bottle, not worth the negligable difference)
#5 Pearl (another wonderful vodka, little less smooth than the ones above, but beautiful taste - velvety)
#6 Vox (a nice vodka, overdistilled - or lacks substance from the beginning, hardly any flavor - very smooth though)
#7 Teton Glacier (Off the top of my head, I think this is the name, my favorite potato vodka, i'm not usually fond of potato vodkas but this one stands out, excellent flavor as well as smoothness)

Lets get a vodka discussion going, as it's my nightly indulgance =)

Drink recipes too!

-------
Sour Apple Martini
3 oz Vodka
1.5 oz sweet+sour
1 oz apple pucker

this can be enough for 2 or 1, depending on your glasses. This is my standard measurement on all martinis. I drink 3oz (2 shots) of vodka at a time, in any drink.

--------

Vodka+Tonic

3 oz Vodka
5 oz Tonic

---------

Cosmopolitan (Martini)

3 oz vodka
1.5 oz cranberry juice
1 oz lime juice

A nice lime wedge, for garnish and optional adjustment
----------

All my martinis are prepared the same way. Add ice till shaker is 1/2-3/4 full. Add ingredients, shake vigorously until top of shaker (metal) becomes cold. Wait 30 secs, shake for 5 more seconds, then strain/pour.

Lets hear it folks! And no non-vodka clutter! If you want gin/rum/etc... another thread please. Vodka needs to be key ingredient - i.e. no drinks 3oz rum, 1.5 vodka - vodka needs to be the primary liquor (SORRY FOR THE NAZINESS, I LOVE YOU ALL)

HAHAHAHA, the most I've paid is about $125 imported directly from Russia. Bring your money to Russia and have it exchanged for rubles. You can then get it for real cheap.

I'm sure it's wonderful, I just cannot justify the difference. I go through it way too quickly.

A 750ml bottle doesn't last me a week.

Ciroc is also my new fav, but the best for the $ is Iceberg. Made with water from glaciers. It ranked #2 under Grey Goose just a couple years back and its under 20$ a liter.

Grey Goose, Svedka, Ketel One, Skyy, Vox, Stoli Gold.

Those are my choices.

Ketel One tastes too medicinal for my taste. It's sort of astringent.

To be perfectly frank, the most I've paid is ?8.99 for a bottle of Grants (thats locally distilled shit (almost literally shit) from Ayrshire, Scotland). Hey, I'm even too cheap to fork out the extra ?3 for Smirnoff, but personally I don't think it tastes any different.

To be honest, I never realised you could enjoy the taste of vodka (unless you are Russian). I didn't even know there were such things as Vodka connaisures/expensive vodkas. I'm much more into beer than spirits. I only drink them if I need to be drunk, and quickly. Hope I've not offended anyone with my uncultured utterings.

I know this student who was doing a research year in St Petersbourg, and the Russian family she stayed with literally drank vodka for breakfast, lunch and tea. i can't understand how they do it. Anyway, they got real offended if she refused to drink it, so she would always be fairly tipsy first thing in the morning before she started working! Probably not the most productive research year ever...
