Re-Casing
    #1848109 - 08/25/03 01:21 PM (14 years, 8 months ago)

My friend is pissed off. It's been about a week now since he's cased, and no mycelial growth in sight. No incubation is being used. He doesn't want to and can't really set up his incubator right now either. Can he re-case with a deeper container or such since he can still see chunks of cakes on the top. He knows he messed up, but can he fix it now? He just wants to get some fruits out of this damn thing, if he had known casing would've caused these problems he would've just fruited as cakes. :frown: Someone give me advice to give my friend please. He needs encouragement.

well, is the water content right, are you keeping it in a dark place at about 85 degrees? it shoutld show quick activity in these conditions, no need for incubator, just put it next to a heat source, i.e. a light bulb.

don't re-case, just patch case the areas exposed with a thin layer of your casing material. What are the temps like? you don't neccessarily need an incubator if it is at least room temp, it'll take some time but make sure that it get sufficient air exchange, light and hopefully you some kind of terrarium setup. apply the thin layer in the exposed areas and lightly mist, don't over do it and after that mist only when the casing looks/feels dry, and remember to mist with a diluted h202 solution, I usually don't have to mist until after the first flush.

How much air exchange is good though-my friend has read to "poke holes" in saran wrap or foil-but..he's afraid this will dry it out, quickly. And ruin the whole thing. The temp is about 76 he says (that's room temp).

use an empty syringe to poke holes in the plastic. works great.
