history of the american corporation

corporate rule in america

I was wondering when exactly corporations got the legal rights of an individual, and this claeared it up.

Indeed. Good to see a bit of good ol' fashioned curiosity up and about.

Now, it's time to end the unassailable rights of corporations. By the way - since you got that snippet at the Adbusters site, have you read "Culture Jam" yet? If not, stop what you're doing, go get it now, and read it. Today. I'm serious.

Sad but true. Corporations control the Government.

no, I haven't read it. do you buy adbusters? I used to, but I feel kind of dumb to have to dole out the 7 buck for info I ought to be able to find on the internet, but sometimes it's worth it. did you get last months issue? it came with a sick DJ spooky mix... he mixed an ani difranco song.. how cool is that?

Yah - I buy Adbusters, and have just subscribed (a few weeks ago).  I can dig what you're saying about wanting to get it on the net, but their site has other info that's relevant.  The mag is WELL worth the money, and financially supporting them by buying it is extremely important to me, and so I do it happily.

And did your issue come with a CD?  I missed out on that boat :frown:

Seriously - get Culture Jam as soon as you can.  It's easy to sound gung-ho or rabid when talking about the importance of people like Kalle Lasn to the revolutionary paradigm that's going to be necessary to change our world for the better, but, well... I can't do it justice.  Just read it

Oh - and read "Culture of Fear" by a Dr. *** Glassner (I can't remember his first name, and I don't feel like running downstairs to grab it.)

And go buy Bowling for Columbine right now.  Micheal Moore is another guy who deserves our financial support so that he can keep doing what it is he does.

Yah, it is, at that.

I'm working on some interesting jams as we speak   I'll post pics every so often - maybe that'll motivate others to do a bit of jamming as well.  Anything to get more of us active!

Its amazing how many of you become so paranoid over a little blip of noise somewhere. It must be the drugs. The USA isn't the only country that has corporations.

If you buy stocks then you can vote for various things in the corporation, although, I don't think many of you have the ability to understand the issues.

I meant that many of you don't have enough education to understand a lot of political and economics things in the world. So go somewhere and study.

No you meant us stupid druggies are all of-course un-educated, duh we do drugs...  Most of us surly dropped out of high school because we where too busy smoking pot, right?

Remember making broad, sweeping generalizations about everyone else on the shroomery just proves to people that you're not a team player!

The fact is, corporations have MORE rights then individuals now.  And the worse part is, once they go public they are EXPECTED to turn evil and only think about the money.

The public companies are the ones that scare me.  I mean you take the people that started the company, the ones with all the vision and drive, pay them off till they don't care, and stick some CEO type that's paid to ONLY look at the bottom line.

For instance, Abercrombie and Finch (at least used to) makes there employees spend like half there paychecks buying new clothes.  They hardly ever give them more then 20 hours a week, (So they never get trapped into paying benefits) And there clothes are most likely made with sweatshop labor.

BUT, do the people that own stock in Abercrombie and Finch care?  Not really, the just see the stock rise, hence the CEO is doing a good job!

Public companies scare me the most.  It's like there just eating machines that don't care about the morals or consequences of there actions, yet have more rights then individuals...

Btw, the original link does not work, I've always found the time for ad-busters, I'd like to read this article as well.

After my company was bought by a corporation I got a raise and more benefits. Also, I made over 12 thousand dollars in dividends from shares of publicly owned companies this year in one non-retirement account that I set up for income.

I put a link here so I can enjoy counting my money whereever there's an internet connection. These are all the dividends I made so far this year. I own a house with no mortgage so I don't have a lot of bills. I'm working toward early retirement so I can entertain you people on the internet full time.

As tiresome as many of PeePee's posts are he is quite correct in pointing out that most of the people here do not understand issues of corporate governance or marketing or accounting. I include myself in that group as well. We are almost all of us amateurs commenting on the activities of professionals. There are a few things I can comment on as a professional but they never come up. As to politics, in this country we are all professionals. It is what we do.

Redstorm, quit whining for a ban over truth. If you think that's a flame you are truly the child of political correctness and an enemy of free speech. There, I flamed you. Call Mommy
