Bacterial Contamination on BRF Cakes
    #18451774 - 06/21/13 12:38 PM (11 years, 6 months ago)

Two of my jars are finishing colonization (about 75% and 85%) and are pinning in vitro, but they have a very slight sour smell. My instinct of course was to toss them, but threads like this now make me question what I should do with them exactly.

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/16382377/fpart/1/vc/1

I don't feel comfortable putting them in my FC with the other 9 cakes, and I don't have the room or even the lighting for another FC. The only thing I can really thing of is to bury them in the backyard. Suggestions?

Like an upside down 2 litre? Not a bad idea.... Would I put any holes in it or just give it frequent visits for FAE? I'm home most of the day right now.

Bacillus is a strict aerobe, so you're going to have a real balancing act here.  You need FAE for good pinning, but every time you fan you're also helping out the bacteria.  I'd just bury it in the back yard and let the bacillus duke it out with other, more beneficial bacteria.

Yeah I think that's what's going to happen. Does it need any sort of attention out there, if it's really dry out should it be moistened or something? Or should I just bury it straight into dirt and leave it?
