Terrarium Construction HELP.. Professional Assistance..

I need some expert opinions! I want to construct a terrarium, a fairly large one.. I want to use the pf tek, sorta more rye see method with a casting layer of vermiculite with trays and multi genotypes.. while using the perlite for maintaining humidity.. I want it to be self sustaining. Id like to mount and rig a small computer fan to the terrarium on a timer to mimic fanning. I understand the larger terrarium may require a small humidifier, that's no big deal.. I want it to be perfect.. low budget, low maintenance and give me the best results.. I'd even go as far as adding a air pump and submersible aquarium heater if that what it takes to stabilize environmental factors.. I'd tried looking for some photos of my idea but I really can't find anything.. Hope to hear some responses. I wanna be proper and professional!

search PMP. but i warn you that the only way i ever trust the set n forget is a mono, pmp's are hard to dial in. a sgfc and manual attention is always your best bet, you can mist/fan before you go to work and when you get back without isssue

Sorry if I'm asking over asked questions.. Big tube, perlite, trays, light and casing and just mist before work and after and I should be kosher? You want to just mist the side walls right.. seems like anything else would be too much of a risk.

OP, I am also a newbie and I started with a PMP, but it didn't produce squat, so I switched to a shotgun fruiting chamber (SGFC) and things have been amazing except for the damn fungus gnats. Fuckers! They don't seem to eat anything, but they are bothersome.
Definitely go with a SGFC and don't be afraid of popcorn! BRF TEK works day and night, but popcorn is just out of sight!

And alas, one more opinion, mono is the bulk way, pmp is a shroom crock pot, as long as it is dialed in, meaning it is working properly keeping rh and having sufficient air entrainment. Sgfc is a labor intensive, but you notice everything better because it is labor intensive.
What will work for you? Something called your own opinion. Thus hobby is about experimenting over and over again and finding out what works best for you.
Good luck, and have faith in yourself. Peace

fungus gnats.. how are they hatching out? I figured the pressure cooker would kill all of that! I grow organically and I deal with the on the reg.. But I don't see how this is a problem.. Please explain!

What's your substrate? Pasteurization process?
A small bowl of red wine, white vinegar, or red vinegar with Saran wrap over the top, and poke 3-5 holes in it with a paper clip or pin. They don't have to be to big, because then they will fly back out. That will only control the population.... Meaning you can finish a flush but after that sterilize, bug bomb, sterilize, back at it :-)
Hope that helps

I have a question in regards to the sgfc. I know that you want about 4-5 inches of perlite in the bottom, but say I was using a very large container such as the before mentioned 60gal container; how much perlite would I need to fill that required 4-5 inches of the bottom?
just a rough estimate is all I am looking for. I bought 3 gallons not realizing that its really not as much as I assumed lol. So I know I need quite a bit more, just need to know how much more, and since none of my local shops sell it, or are always out I need to go the online route for my purchase =/

I'm not sure Ayseone, I say start with 4 inches then add it in one inch intervals until you hit your desired humidity. see if it stables out.. Use your humidity gauge.

You only need to fan after you mist, so you would still have to manually mist the cased grains, in which case you might as well just manually fan.
Build a huge SGFC(Shotgun Fruiting Chamber), and mist/fan once or twice a day.
Or spawn the grains to bulk substrate material in a set and forget monotub, instead of just casing....this will give you the best bang for your buck.

Not really.

SGFC or Monotub

Never heat the fruiting chamber, heat the room.
Build a SGFC or spawn to bulk in monotubs....simple.

lol I know that, I am concerned with the amount of perlite I am going to have to purchase in order to achieve the desired humidity and the 4-5 inches of perlite.

well I didnt expect an exact answer. I just figured since someone had mentioned the idea of a large fruiting chamber, I assumed that they had done it before so I was seeing if maybe that had an idea of how much perlite was required for them.
I havent made my fruiting chamber yet, I just inoculated 2 days ago. So I still have plenty of time to get the required amount of perlite. I just dont want to order another 3 gallons, then still be short. Its not like I can just run up to the store and grab some more, i have to wait for shipping since I have to order everything off the net.
