Can I save any of those jars?
    #18449023 - 06/20/13 07:59 PM (11 years, 6 months ago)

Hey guys! So I have some WBS jars that are stalled, some are obviously contaminated, some are fighting against bacteria and winning, some are just stalled.

I'd like to know if I should shake them, or if some are good, or just if I just PC them and toss it.

This one is winning against the contam.

This one is obviously contamd. Toss or shake?

Just a small spot that didn't got colonized and now it's stalled after a week. Shake?

Stalled

I think this one im gona toss...

tiny spot stalled. Shake right?

ewwww

Seem to be fighting... who will win?

Thanks in advance!

grains are to wet. those are contaminated. if the outside of the grains are wet and slimy, bad things happen. my guess is those are bricks that wouldn't break up no matter how hard you try..

Well I shaked some of them and they weren't wet, the ones that had only small stalled spot. As for the obviously contamd one, I will be tossing them.

Should I wait for the myc to recover if I shake the good ones? Or can I use them to spawn or g2g right away?

Do something with them outdoors, don't just toss them... If you throw them in the ground then you at least have a chance for some fruits

Toss them all.  As cronir said, bacteria of some kind is the culprit.

Bad syringe or sterilization technique?

I wish I could, but my landlord would kill me :O

I'm going to spawn them in a individual tub and i'll see what it does.

I have 25jars that I just took out of the PC now and since I don't even have 1 clean colonized jar I'm going to just leave them in my inoculation room untill I have something ready. How long can I leave PC'd WBS before I g2g it? If it's like a week should I just re-PC them before I g2g them?

I think the problem was my GE, the hole was too small and I was using polyfil. I just switched to SFD so I don't think i'm gona get bacteria anymore.

if your hell bent on doing it i'd suggest making your sub a little on the dry side.
sterilized grain jars will be good as long as there not contammed

you shouldn't have to re PC. I would try to get the outside of your grains a little more dry next time. good luck

SFDs kill it.  They don't wick contaminates in like polyfil.

Ok guys what I'm gona do is make a tub of contaminated jars. I will take good precautions and spawn it in an other room, just to see what it will do. It hurts me to just toss all these jars, i'm sure people will understand my stupidity  /  curiosity

Anything I should know before I try it?

Bacteria won't be airborne, should be fine(ish).  You can still get fruits from bacteria ridden spawn, just not likely much if any.  Also, if you do get any make sure to dry completely before ingesting.  I feel your pain, I recently dumped 12 quarts in the yard due to a bad master jar with hidden bacteria.
