Quick question

The last of my jars finally reached 100% colonization, so I opened the lids to make sure everything was ok considering how long they took to colonize, and one of the jars had 2 shrooms growing out of the verm and into the lid. I picked them off because they were pushing hard into the lid, one is a normal looking, well formed mushroom. The other looks like a long, very fat mushroom, but most of it is spongy and soft until right before the cap. Is that part edible/active? Because it's huge and I'd love to eat it, but it doesn't feel like a mushroom.

Those jars are still consolidating, one side just finished way faster than the other in those ones

Interesting. Usually full colonization is a necessary pinning trigger AFAIK. And I am sure the general consensus is that when you have in vitro pins to birth. What do you attribute the slow colonization of one side to? Potential contaminate? If not, I think you made the right call.

I just attributed it to my inexperience, this is my first time growing fungi. During inoculation I forgot to shake the syringe every time, and when I was packing the substrate into the jars I may have been too careful not to pack it in too tight and ended up leaving gaps. I figure between the two, there were some spots where the mycelia had trouble taking hold while the rest of the cake was healthily colonizing. As an example, here's the jar that took longest, you can see that it's just finishing up today, the spot in the top center just closed.

Here's the other side of that same jar

I figured I'd let them sit the full 7 days after full colonization despite the pinning, do you think that's unnecessary though? My main concern is that they may be susceptible to contamination if I don't wait for the mycelium to consolidate its hold on those spots.
