Polyfil
    #18442184 - 06/19/13 12:33 PM (11 years, 6 months ago)

How bad is it to use the poly that's already in pillows laying around my house, I'm on a budget don't really want to buy a full bag (I know it's cheap it's also a matter of transport).

Thoughts.

Would PC'ing it be acceptable to make sure it's clean

They sell pretty small bags of it, and it's not very heavy.  If you have a backpack you could put it in there and easily forget you even had it on you.

PCing for an adequate length of time will kill anything that would provide problems for you at regular temperatures, but the more bacterial endospores you have, the longer an adequate sterilization will take.  If it were me, I'd try to choose something that I'd never exposed to a liquid culture of bacteria and yeasts (drool).  Dig through your couch for a quarter to pick up a couple stuffed animals with the tags still on them at a local yard sale or something.

I use pillow polyfill all the time with no troubles.  I just cut a small hole in the corner then pull it out with pliers.  Then sew it back up so my girlfriend doesn't find out.

Go for it. Just stuff the poly in jars and put a regular lid on and PC for 20 min.

Is there anyone living in Europe like me who knows anything about synonyms, can you just buy this at a DIY store in the insulation dept?

No.  It's acrylic quilt batting/pillow stuffing.  You can buy it at hobby and craft stores.
