Tents for sterile procedures

So my buddy manages a hydro store and they are switching up their stock. I grabbed a nice tent set (3'x3'x5'7") that came with an attachable clone box, got it for under $100
So I've been working in there for few weeks and I wanted to show some pics.
The benefit of working in a tent is that it is basically a draft-free room you can set up anywhere. And as well all know from using still-air boxes, a draft free room is preferable for clean work.
I use it most often with the door mostly unzipped and I work inside my still-air box for extra protection. Remember, I have dealt with lots of contam problems so I can never be too careful.
I can do my work in open air if I zip the door shut all the way but it gets very hot inside, especially if I'm using an alcohol lamp.
If I want to work in open air, I also have to dress for the occasion: shower, freshly laundered clothes, tyvek sleeves, gloves, surgical mask. I take extra precautions like wiping down all my surfaces and being very aware of the location of my hands, arms, and equipment.
Next goal is to build myself a nice hood and be done working in boxes forever
Here are a few pics of it. It's totally overkill and I'm sure you can do the same thing DIY-style for half the price or less. But I got a deal I couldn't turn down so here we are

Where the hell has slapphappypill run off to? He'd be proud

I was gonna say, a flowhood in that thing would be amazing. It'd likely cycle enough air to keep it reasonably cool in there, too.
I've thought of doing the same thing, except I was gonna do it ghetto with plastic dropcloth and PVC pipe.

If it gets hot in there, isnt that create currents of air? But yes i can see the extra protection it can give if working with a SAB.
Isnt a flowhood on your to do list yet?

Ah, now you can do open air needle inoculations, FH.

So what are you going to do when you get mold on an agar dish & still want to transfer it? Back to the box you go!

I don't have a flowhood. I've had a 24x48x6 hepa filter in my basement for 2 years now.
I can do a G2G in 10 minutes, including sterile procedure. Although, a flowhood would be nice for my back & shoulders.

The tent even has holes for ducting fresh air in, to the HEPA fan.

Don't know how I missed that. Actually, it's the opposite. It'll be hot as shit in there. Blowers create a lot of heat, which is why I don't have my flowhood yet. I want smaller filter that way I don't push out as much heat in my clean room.

I didn't even think about that part.
I wonder how hard it'd be to cut a hole so that you could have the face of the filter inside the tent but the blower outside? I imagine a little bit of aluminum tape would make it pretty easy.

It's a flowhood, bro. No reason to make an extra tent.

True, the box will always have a special place in my heart
And as for the hood, I'll still run it in the tent, no fresh air from outside, kind of defeats the purpose. But scrubbing the air in my house will be easier done in the tent than trying to scrub a whole room.
I will figure out the heat issue when it comes.
Working in there has definitely improved my contam rate. Working at near 100% success as of today

Get a room tent!
I've considered using a camping tent if I ever run into major contam issues.

I approve of this.
Does laminar flow matter if you scrubbed all the air in there? Surely that wouldn't take long so maybe heat wouldn't even be an issue. Though I dunno the likelihood of contams flying off your clothes or the like.

I've been doing open air agar transfers in my clean room. No contams as of yet. However, I have yet to get the balls to do an open air G2G or grain inoculation that requires me to open the lid. & the agar transfer to grain I'm doing tomorrow is of my clone of a clone. So I don't want to screw that up, as FH is interested in the results.Quote:

Yes, I would still use either laminar flow or still air. No need to take unnecessary risks

Discount. It was almost 300 dollars retail.

Damn that is a sweet tent. Funny how still air heats up so fast, in fact it is my biggest gripe. 5 minutes into spawning I am a sweaty dog, and it just makes me irritable and prone to mistakes. Guess I will just have to get over it.
