First Grow GT and Alacabenzi (Update 6/10)
    #18335611 - 05/28/13 09:20 PM (11 years, 7 months ago)

I see a lot of logs on here that i browsed to get this far, so I thought I  would show what I've done so far.

This is what I started with; 6 BRF cakes. There were sterilized in a pressure cooker for 60 minutes at 15 psi.

After 4 days I checked my inoculated jars and found this

To measure growth i started marking the jars with red where i saw any growth. At 8 days this is what I found on another of the 8 jars.

This is one of my favorite pictures at 12 days.

Several more weeks past and I allow some time for consolidation; some of this time was not intentional since I failed to notice that the vermiculite had fallen down the edges as the cake blocking me from seeing all the way to the top. I believe they were ready to birth much before I actually took them out. This is a picture was taken fairly close to birthing.

I birthed my cakes and soaked them for 24 hours; this is what they looked like right out of the jar.

I then rolled them in vermiculite and placed them in my Shotgun Fruiting Chamber. I attempted to get the holes as conform as possible; I hope that its good enough to keep the humidity needed. I have a digital hydrometer that indicated its 80 inside the chamber and 47% humidity, but I think its misreading and plan on getting an analog in the next few days. I have been misting and fanning several times and day for the two days they have been in the chamber.

FUCK SPORES101
now that thats out of the way as long as your misting/fanning there is  no need for the hygrometer, you will constantly have 95%+ coming off your sub's surface

I'm not sure if you looked at my album to see what other jars I had uploaded were, or how else you would know that. I did ordered from there, but the spores worked fine; the substrate not so much (very dry). That's why I ended up making own own; I ordered before reading more into it and now I have a few more sets starting with spores from an affiliate of the site.

Your confidence in my fruiting chamber is comforting as I was worried about the humidity. I have been misting/fanning 3 times a day so far. Would you recommend more or less? I also am not misting the cakes directly I am instead misting the walls of the chamber.

What did you use for substrate in your jars? It looks odd. Mine looks very different when I do cakes.

I'd recommend misting anywhere from 2-4 times per day, and fanning about 5-7 times. If your cakes start to look a little dry from that then to Ivan cut back on your fanning and up the misting, and if they're too wet then vice-versa.

When you mist it's ok to wet the cakes. They should glisten with water on their surface. Extra fanning us to help evaporate more water off then and ensure a good pinset.

I used vermiculite, organic brown rice flower, and water. I agree it turned out looking a bit dark. The measurements were about 3:1:1.

Cool.. Idk the myc looks strong. I bet you will have some fruit in a week. Good luck.

Are your holes 2 inches apart if so that would make your perlite over 4 inches you should be good start to see some pins.

Just a bit of an update; I placed my cakes in the fruiting chamber after their dunk and it took 11 days to see the first pins. I failed to expose the jars to sunlight before birthing them.

This is one of the first batch

This cake is actually from a batch I started much later than the first, but since I exposed it to light during consolidation it started to pin in the jar preventing the wait. They have continued to grow every day since then.

I have been misting and fanning them 3 times a day or more; on most days I do this 6 or 7 times.

I started some WBS jars as well; they seem to be coming along nicely even though I failed to simmer the WBS.

Here is an update on those pins and another good flush. I was a bit late picking it so it seems their are spore on the lower mushrooms, but this has gone very well so far

This is one of the two pins pictured in a earlier post

and this is one of my better cake flushes

I'm looking forward to my second flush on several cakes. I have re-dunked and am waiting for it the magic.
