well if you are going to case the cake(s) anyhow it may not pose too much of a threat of becoming contaminated. however i have,in the past, birthed cakes that were 99.7% colonized along with completely colonized cakes and every one of the 99.7% colonized cakes became contaminated with cobweb. if there is even one bit thats not covered with mycelium then it allows an opportunity for a foreign competitor to land there and grow. you may think that just because you have no contaminates infecting your crop that they aren't present. WRONG! they're there they just havent found a spot to grow yet. mycelium is pretty tough though and it will usually fight and win against contaminates so long as it has firmly established itself in a particular substrate. good luck and i hope this helped a bit

Did it before, lucky enough not to get a contam, and the mycelium quickly grew over the uncolonized bit, if it's predominantly colonized then you can try birthing it early but at your own risk.

When you birthed did you case?

no i did not case them. if you case them i think you will be alright that is if you crumble them up first then once the mycelium starts to recover it will most likely colonize the uncolonized parts before a competitor can establish itself. how does that sound?

I?m going to cut the un colonized part out completely. Then id think it would be ok to cut them into disks. You think or no?

you're good to go. sounds like you had the answer all along. just needed some reassurance. it'll work!

Can't you just treat it with h202? That would kill the bacteria and since the spores already germinated. the mycellium should be able to survive it..
