First time with master jars
    #18439307 - 06/18/13 08:55 PM (11 years, 6 months ago)

Hi,

I have 2 jars that I made up with rye berries and I am hoping to make some master jars.  I have pics.  Each one got a decent sized wedge from a healthy looking petri plate.  I wasn't quite sure if I should shake the jar around to try to bury the agar wedge.  I tilted the jar a little to get some grains in closer contact with the wedge.  Well, any ideas here?  Should I shake it up and get the wedge totally buried?

I know these jars are kinda full, but a TC said he filled em full and had no problem shaking, so I went with that advice.

That will work, I'd have personally cut that wedge in a few slices and dropped them in on different sides/ shaken in a bit, but what you have will work.

As far as fullness, you'll get a chance to see, but I leave my wbs jars ~3/4 full and have had great luck with only having to shake once at ~20% due to excellent colonized grain distribution that the extra room allows.  When you run you g2g jars leave at least half of them in a less full state so you can compare (you'll be glad you did)
