Why is it ok for a Japanese person to be proud of their heritage but not a white person?
For the record, I think racial pride is a stupid concept.

there's a punk rock song about this... I think it's anti-flag, but I can't find it anywhere... it's called "fasicsts fuck off" or something like that. anyway, there's a line in it that goes something like "so what exactly are the accomplishments of the white race? mcdonalds, something else, and something else?" damn I wish I remembered what it was... oh well. oh, it had something to do with sending nazi's back to their nordic god...
anyway, that's not why I hold this opinion, every race has some stupid shit in their past, it's cause white american culture has always just been a rip off, a sham. I totally respect people who pride themselves on their irishness or their germanness, and blacks on their blackness. but american white culture (which is a distinct thing) is shit. the good poets, philosophers, artists, musicians, etc of america have always been outside of white culture even if they're white. that's why jazz and rock blew up, cause there's no soul in white america. nietzsche predicted this...

Malachi, there is no such thing as an "american white" that did not come from other parts of the world. White just means a skin color, and many diferent backrounds are whites. If you mean proud of american culture, then I have to remind you, there is really no such thing.

there is though, it's just not easily recognizable since it's so insubstantial. true, american whites came from a variety of other cultures, but that was a long time ago. hundred's of years is more than enough time to create a new culture, and there is. it's white america, just like despite american blacks being from a variety of african cultures but now are distinctly black americans. and just like how many africans have cultural clashes with black americans, most europeans do not recognize white americans as being part of their original cultures. the same is true of native americans, but to a lesser extent because they haven't mixed like blacks and whites: there is more of a pan native american culture, but they (different tribes) are wayyyy more distinct than, say, french white americans from english white americans.
anyway, about the sacred and it's absence from american white culture... christianity is a discarded husk of a faith, altered beyond recognition from it's original precepts. if america embraced the avant garde as a culture as does europe, this might not be such a big deal. but white america doesn't, it reacts fearfully and menacingly toward it and those who produce it. I think this is why the youth culture is so obsessed with finding the sacred in music and drugs and eastern religion the old culture is generally so depraved... a good general rule is to not trust the old, of couse some are veterans who have retained their sense of the sacred, old hippies and the like (even some academics here and there) but generally this is the case. basically the collapse of christianity has created a vaccum in the place where we define value, so relativism has run amok.
cultural pride is good. I didn't understand it at first, but co-opting other cultures is a fair thing to do, like mushroom eaters and festival goers and ravers and that sort of thing... of course, I think that the best thing to do would be to not cop out of the american trip to embrace it a la ken kesey and jimi hendrix and make something new and original, for from the artist comes value and culture. that the currently dominate white culture has this automatic throttle the newcomer paranoid fear of the new (which is actually the sacred), it is to be condemned. individual white people need not go down with the ship, and most here recognize that: most are of the ilk of kesey or kerouac, if to varying degrees, and are doing quite a good job at seperating themselves from white america. that's what punks about, it's what hip hop is about, iit's what jam bands are about, it's what raves are about, it's what the avant garde is about, t's what the mushroom trip is about. conservatives are not about seperating from white american culture, they ARE white american culture. that's what conservatism means. this is the real reason to be liberal, because liberal means able to change. it has nothing to so with the size of the gov't, it has nothing to do with individual rights. these are not "conservative" stances, since individual rights and small gov't haven't been status quo for a long time.

Friend of mine had a sticker of that on his truck about 10 years ago. People constantly thought it meant that he was some kind of white-power guy.
That's even dumber than it sounds considering he's Colombian. Pasty little fucker, though.
