Hey guys! So I have 15 jars of substrate cooling down, and I just remembered there was no gypsum. I'm wondering if I can just pasteurize some gypsum on the side and add it in my tub while I mix everything?
Also, they say to use gypsum for 10% of your substrate. So Should I pasteurize 1 quart + haft a quart of gypsum?
Thanks in advance!!!

Damn
I feel like just throwing out the 15 jars and starting over... I heard it almost doubles the yield!!!
My gypsum is in small little piece, why can't I just pasteurize some you think? It's not in powder form like most of you so it doesn't disolve in the water, I just throw it in and usually mix everything...
Also do you confirmed 10% of 15 jars = 1.5 ? Just want to make sure it's actually 10% and not less. i'm using 50% poo 25% coir 25% verm.

Doesn't mean you won't yield alot just cuz of the gypsum.

Throwing it all away over the lack of an unnecessary additive is fucking insanity. It will not double your yield. not sure where you heard it would.
If you insist on pasteurizing some and adding it, do that

10% is a bit heavy... more like 5. But don't dump it, it's just bonus growth/additive.
As to your question. No reason not to pasteurize gypsum and add it too. Maybe add a bit of verm or something to stop it clogging. (just a guess, hell I've never done it). It seems logical and safe though. Might need a bit of water to bring it back up to capacity after.

allright I'll do it if I get at least 1 other positive feedback. If not i'll just do like cronicr said and skip the gypsum. I'm just trying to understand why it wouldn't be a good idea.
Also I only have 15 jars of colinized grain so i'm trying to get the most out of them, thus why I really want the gypsum

Well the way I see it I was getting ready to go to bed anyway so I wasn't going to spawn anything anytime soon. Might as well pasteurize 1 quart of gypsum and let it cool down overnight, then tomorrow I'll add a bit on each layer and just mix everything at the end. I'm going to add verm because someone said so. Wish me luck!!

A quart?? holy shit, that's a lot. For reasons I'm not sure of, some people see an increase in the occurance of the green with the addition of gypsum to substrates. Perhaps if only because its beneficial to mycelium of all types including molds. Maybe its a ph thing. I haven't put much resarch into the reason. Coincidental, perhaps. Just something I've seen repeatedly mentioned, whether false or not.

Well my tub is 95qt, and to reach the 3 inch mark I need 25 quart. So basicly 1qt of gypsum would be 4% of my sub
