need some help with this green house
    #18432721 - 06/17/13 04:21 PM (11 years, 6 months ago)

A friend of mine is building a GH
The frame is made of pvc it's 4ft wide by 5ft high with a peaked roof
.4mil plastic walls
no shelves
the only thing inside the GH at the moment is 2 4ft 6500k lights hanging from it's ceiling and a 4ft round kiddie pool at the bottom which is gonna be filled with 75 to 100 qt of wbs spawn and many pounds of compost.

he needs some advice on FAE and humidity control
what would be his least expensive options?

Least expensive?  I use a 120mm computer fan for FAE cycles, and my humidifier also pumps in fresh air; I imagine you could run the 120mm fan and just get an ultrasonic humidifier and run it for a very short duration every hour.

I use a 3-disk from this website: http://www.mainlandmart.com/foggers.html though mine is controlled via a RH controller (not expensive, but certainly not the cheapest option.)  If you have no controller and just a 15 minute on/off timer, you'd need a less powerful, probably 1 disk ultrasonic.  You'd have to tune it to your GH yourself.

Also, consider putting a computer fan inside the GH to help distribute the humidity.

^Here you can see the 120 up top, and the squirrel cage masterfully placed for the humidifier inside.

:whathesaid:  Cut a giant piece of bubblewrap maybe too for pinning encouragement?

The harvest would be maddening.  I'd bet a silver dollar you could stand on a full canopy.  haha!

I was thinking the bubble wrap trick would be a good idea for this. Another concern I had was having it colonize evenly ,and what I should use to cover it while it's colonizing. I sure as hell not gonna use foil I had a ton of myc piss from using foil on a baking tray I could even image the amount of yellow goo that would develop in a 4ft kiddie pool lol

In my GH I do not have to mist.  All I use is that blower and a 3 disk ultrasonic.  I also have my RH sensor at the bottom, where the humidity should be lowest, so the top is even higher.  However, it is important to have periods of dryness, as evaporation is a pinning trigger.

As for covering the pool (lol,) maybe fabricate something out of trash bags or plastic wrap, and tape half of it on there before you dump in your goods, then tape the rest after it is all good and mixed.

Take a gander at Frank's grain soak tek, I used it for my most recent grow, and at a 1:1 ratio of spawn to substrate, I had colonization in 4-5 days.

I assume you will be pasteurizing your substrate for this endeavor?

with that much sub you wouln't need to mist much or worry about humidity, that would humidify an entire bedroom lol

I dunno, cronicr, I think it would dry out faster than you think, esp if you want decent FAE.
