Flow Hood
    #18431831 - 06/17/13 12:47 PM (11 years, 6 months ago)

My parents and I are thinking of upping our production and trying to sell oysters to local restaurants or farmers markers. I've long thought about building a flow hood and saying goodbye to the stress of using a glovebox. We have a sauna in a guest bedroom (which gets no use) that is set into the wall. We're thinking about removing the sauna and creating a small "room" by sectioning off the area that the sauna currently takes up (4 x 6 feet)

If I were to place the hood in this room, would I need to hook it up to a vent that filters outside air and pushes it into the "lab"? Or do I just put it in the room and let it filter the air contained in my workspace

If the air in your room is contained, then running the flow cab for hours before use is one strong step towards using it as a "clean room"
If you have outside circulation instead, then the only assured air is that coming out of your HEPA.

In the end neither may make a huge difference for your experience.
I'd say, if your former-sauna gets hot like a sauna in use :hehehe: then get you some circulation.
If not, keep it self-contained! Why not!

my flowhood is located in a drafty dirty ass garage.  lol.  for a while i was paranoid, and although not the most ideal location and conditions, ive yet to have any contaminants from anything other from other mistakes ive made here and there.

Thank you both for the speedy answers! And good I'm glad to hear it. It will be easier/cheaper to just leave the room contained, and it shouldn't be too hot in there! Can't wait until it's up and running!
