What does it mean when fruits have wrinkly stems?
    #18429760 - 06/16/13 09:06 PM (11 years, 6 months ago)

Yesterday the fruits on one of my cakes were all smooth and plump, about 2 inches in length. Today they are double in length, but are thinning out and looking scraggly. The stems look like the skin of an elderly lady.

Is this normal? If not, what am I doin wrong?

Is the context of my description insufficient? I can give more details if it would help.

They are wrinkled with dimples on the stem, veils still attached on all of them, the caps look completely normal from the pics ive seen, just not the stems. its like they are collapsing in on themselves as they grow out.

Update: I actually just looked, and the veil just tore on 2 of them within the last hour.

Make sure they are getting plenty of fresh air exchange. Pics would help though

I think your probably right. I have been misting every 2 hours since I got home, they havent gotten any worse and theyre still growing. The veils have broken on 2, and 1 of them is almost all the way open now.

They are in a cluster of 19, about half pretty developed. Im debating on if I should just clip the 2 before bed, or harvest the whole cluster. Id hate to wake up to a chamber full of spores /unsure/

Thx for the tip. Since only half of my chamber has cakes in it I was able to scoop the other other half into a strainer and run it under a faucet. That should help the chamber function well again. I think that was the problem. Kinda a bummer too cause my fruits were really plump and looked like they would get huge, then just withered out. The newer pins are thin and the big one only grew to 4-5 inches :/
