just read an article about CA based vintners making weed wine

orders of business:
1) i have a friend with a medical rec in CA and was planning on making yerba mate matcha chamomile weed mead this summer for him. yes.

2) give me allll the homebrewing with cannabis recipe's you can give me, my buddy would be super grateful and in the future when it is more legal i can do some more profound experimentation with it.

my experience:
1 failed orange n spice mead brew (oranges and fruit inside became grey and bubbly over the brewing period, used bakers yeast as well)
2 beer brews which were both very successful, both pales ales including one imperial pale ale
3 cider brews, all came out pretty strong and good

ideas i have for this brew
make the really potent yerba mate based tea so that one glass/one cup is strong tasting, smelling, and feeling (in effect), robust and powerful
add good amt of matcha
add good amt of chamomile, for strong relaxation effects
boil a good bit
add jarrrrrs of organic raw local honey unwhipped/unliquified


now:
the first time i can add the raw powdered cannabis/oils/WAXES/hashes/kiefs or would want to is after the honey is fully dissolved in the big brew pot, so that it gets warmed up with the whole mixture, then add to carboy (1gal for each brew), then pitch yeast

-what yeast should i use? my buddy has 20+ EC 1118's could def use

-does heated water activate thc into thcA, orally active thc? side question definitely but is there a temperature i could heat the whole mix to for a certain amt of time to with absolutely minimal thc loss/destruction to assure 100% active thc, then it could be drunk right there (which sounds rediculous i know, probs not true), OR would at least aid in thc binding

so

i could add the budddd to the mix and heat and loosen bud then pitch yeast and ferment out

i could do everything except add bud then pitch the yeast and wait at least 4 days then add powdered bud and extracts dissolved in water (less chance of mold, but to control the mold factor i could also heat up all of it for a while in minimal amt of water then add to already fermenting and alcohol strong mead)

i could dry hop at hotter temperature (120? estimate, give me good ideas) or at lower room temperature

and i could add extracts at the end of the brew, there are some options my buddy has been telling me about that are already orally active, at that point it would be about getting dosage strong and ideal

seems like an eigth per bottle is a standard dosage based on what i've read (only 5 recipes tops, not too much stuff out there)

I bought a book years ago about cannabis brews.

The author used trim and high alcohol based beers. Pretty much based it on a "only need one" mentality. Sounded interesting but never got to it.

Now that you reminded me though, perhaps I shall!

I go find that book and see what else it says. Hell, it's small enough, maybe I can even scan it for you...

Seems like I read somewhere that adding the weed prior to ferment was a fail.  But after ferment the alcohol will extract the THC?  Can you do an alcohol extraction with vodka on the weed, and add that to the beer or mead?  Is the weed extraction oil based, if so will it dissolve well into the beer or mead?

Alcohol is miscible in water, meaning that any amount of either will dissolve in the other.  So you could do what you mentioned.  If you are going to do that, you might as well make some potent green dragon and put a few drops in some quality brew.

IMO, if I was to BREW a batch of cannabis beer, I definitely wouldn't add a tincture to it.
If that's the case, why not just drop the tincture directly under the tongue?

Dry hoping definitely should be the way to go. With some good trim (or dried buds if you have it to spare) you should be golden. If you look hard enough you can get good trim for practically nothing.

As long as the beer is already fermented it will extract the THC from the trim in a couple days.

Yeah.  The problem is that orally ingested cannabis kicks in in 30-90 minutes and alc kicks in almost instantly.

Beer has alcohol in it but it is about 95% not alcohol +/-...
This means that beer alone is a terrible solvent for THC and you would be wasting your money trying to get good results by "brewing" with bud.
I don't brew much any more but I used to make bud brew at Christmas time and through trial and error I have learned:

1) Hash works best, don't try and use bud or trim.
2) Hash oil works better.
3) You need to dissolve the hash in a solvent, either Bacardi 151, everclear or Glycerine.
4) If you use alcohol as a solvent, DON NOT add the tinicture till after fermentation.
5 If you use Glycerine, make something fruity, use less priming sugar.

Really you need to make something super potent first, something that can be added to a brew and absorbed at the right time, you then add it and adjust for flavor.  Hard ciders are much better for THC brews.

Yeah I was thinking hash in the last 10-15 minutes of the boil, but an emulsifier is still probably needed,like soy lecithin. What flavors will that add?  Thc will most likely bind with protein trub during fermentation then settle out. It still all sounds like a mess and potential waste..

As has been pointed out, you don't want to add anything before fermentation.  I don't think you would end up with any good beer and would have wasted good bud.

Soy lecithin you think like a food scientist lol.  How about some sodium benzoate to preserve the flavor as well?
