Are these safe? - Weird growth/bruising - PICS
    #18428792 - 06/16/13 05:32 PM (11 years, 6 months ago)

Picked these off one of the mini-mono's i posted about say a week ago...

Whats with the weird discoloring/bruising on the bottoms? Is this sometimes to be expected from "bulk" methods/substrates? Never had them bruise like that coming off a BRF cake and this is my first mini mono.

On site

What cha think?

They're fine.

Looks like bruising from water droplets.  I've also seen that discoloration when mold is growing on or neat the fruit.

Thanks bud, I've no further expectations from the tubs these came from other then hoping to chop it up into pieces and put it in the ground with my other patches. Seems like those have been flourishing with the weather down here.

Putting together a regular size 66qt mono now so hopefully that will work out a bit better then what these mini's did... I still have hope for them in the future though as I really dont need THAT many fruits ^_^.

Only as often as I cant see any moisture on the surface (3-4 times a day?). These mini's didnt turn out as I expected and im not sure as to why. The myc went yellowish on the top and a couple people mentioned that yellow myc is dead myc. I've got not clue why it'd up and die on the top after making a speedy full colonization. I honestly wasnt expecting these to fruit at all if any but they're coming along surprisingly well, but not nearly as well as I believe they should have. The last trays I threw together grew mini forests and then went yellowish as well... Still trying to figure out what it is im doing or not doing... I honestly feel like I pay them adequate attention though... Just gotta keep trying

Thanks for the input!

Mosey

ive never dealt with minis before but if your losing moisture like that it sounds like your not getting it dialed in properly.

i do regualar monos and dont have to mist really at all during first flush

Yeah I went with the mini's in hopes that that'd be pretty low maintenance (which they are) but I'm not sure whats going on with the FAE and stuff on that design in my particular area. I just put together a regular size mono last night so we'll see how that turns out and I'll decide from there. Can only try and find out! Hate that I bought a bunch of those little tubs though haha... I'll have to turn them into something neat with LED's coming out all the holes or something...
