hey am i the only one on here who thinks that the boiling water part of damian 5050s tek is unnecessary
ive done about 20 tubs without adding boiling water to the coir and have had complete success. im even using the lowerer salt content horticultural grade coco coir its 0.4EC.
im saving so much time as it takes forever for my stove to get the water boiling like 40min

sounds like a lot of work
im just dumping hot water on my coir letting it hydrate. then mixed the spawn and verm in a bag and dumping it into a tub. i can prepare lots of tubs in only one hours time this way, im going to leave my stove for my PCs from now on. and spend the time i save with my friends

My main complaint with Damian's bucket tek is that its dry. So when I open the bucket for the first mix I pour in another quart of water at 185F. Helps even it out.

no the work that counts is the work you did to get to this point, i'd hate to see all of that work go to shit because properly pasturizing seemed like alot of work so you used the bucket tek, just saying bro!

i had the bucket fail me this last time using it but might have used coir with trich added as i got it from amazon and didnt even come packaged but ya cronicrs right thatd be sad to have all that spawn to waste because of unproper pasteurization... id go with franks tek. better safe than sorry.

It is pasteurized as far as I can tell, he's just using "hot" water in place of boiling water. water boils at 212F/100C, pasteurization is from 140-160F.
So, basically, it's just semantics. hot vs boiling.

dumping boiling water isnt pasturization anyways. the coir is comtam resistant because of the salt it makes it hard for spores to germinate. i get my coir straight from india in the form of a pallet
my spawn is very clean. and i get full colonization in 3-4 days no comtams

ill update this after i do another 50 tubs

its not really that much work to make spawn and seeing how im not losing tubs your logic doesnt make sense
im going to build one of these and steam my rye spawn spawn bags for 8-10hrs rodger wabbit says he got 100% sterillization this way with rye. in a 55 gallon starillizer thats over 100qts per vessel, very little bull shit. just inject steam until i hit 1 psi and keep it there

so how HOT of water do you use??? id be afraid that boiling water will even retain pasteurization temps for an hour, let alone "HOT" water...

i didnt say it was pasturization its just hot water hydrates coir much faster than cold water so why use cold water?

pasturizing really helps the mycelium digest the coir, yes coir is contam resistant but not contam proof, if your just gonna go ahead and do it your way anyway then y ask in the first place? just to ?

the only thing im saying is that "i dont pasturize and i dont lose tubs with coir"
im not hear to argue with you as your obviously more experianced
the reason i am here is to see if anyone else is doing the same and also not losing tubs?

the reason i tryed not pasturizing was because i pasurized some coir the legit way in bags in 160F water and ended up leaving them in the basement for a year. i had 40 bags and none of them had any mold growing on them so i ended up using them to grow some herb(s)
if anyone else out there doesnt pasturized or dump boiling water let me know as i feel im not alone.
