Hello everyone
I am very very new to mushroom growing and have been reading some great posts on here for newbie shroom growers, so thanks for sharing all your experiences>
I am wanting to grow mushrooms from a beetle breeding angle. It's actually the mycelium I'm after to produce something the Japanese call Kinshi. I've just purchased some grain spawn of blue oyster mushroom and added it to pasterised hard wood chips and I have it incubating at 24C. I hope that the mycelium will grow, digest the wood and make an ideal feeding substrate for stag beetles.
Eventually I would like to take a spore print and grow my own from there but I am finding all the different ways of growing mushrooms a little over whelming.
Anyway, just wanted to say hello ad ifanyone has any experiencerelating to what I am trying to achieve, I would love to hear from you!

I think this is a first for something like this. Very interesting.
yes there are lots of different ways, but usually it always starts of with grain.
I dont grow oysters but its one of several edibles i want to grow once i get round to it.
As far as edibles are concerned with spore prints, most people dont really start with spores. Since edibles are legal, most people just buy an edible culture that has already had proven ginetics. Someone else has done the hard work and is selling it so you dont have to.
If you start with spores, you dont know what your going to get. Wether its going to colinise fast, if its goig to fruit well, if it grows lots of clusters, or a few big fruiits.
Though i suppose that doesnt matter much if all your after is the mycelium.
