a buddy suggested that i dont really have to use perlite in my terrarium, i only need to set them on the bottom and keep the sides misted, any one think this is a good or bad idea. i don't see why it wouldn't work i just want some input from my fellow collegues.

How is perlite used in conjunction with a casing? Do I put the casing on top of the perlite?

Put perlite on the bottom of your terrarium. Put the containers with the cased mycelium/substrate on top of the perlite.

Yes, but be sure to keep RH high while pinning and lower it after some pins form! To high RH causes me to get aborts and wet caps which isn't good. Try misting the perlite keeping it damp instead of adding a 1/2" of water on the bottom, this might help keep your RH from getting to high for your casing!

Yeah, that sounds a great idea. I learnt that perlite with an inch of water will give you near 100% RH for many weeks! In fact, after two months and almost no water left, I still have 97-98% RH. You definately don't need a lot of water on your perlite to get the RH high.
A better option would be a vent hole on the lid covered with a piece of something that you can slide to adjust of size of the hole. I believe you could more easily control the RH level in your terrarium this way but i'm also concerned about unwanted contaminant slipping in when fruiting casings.
I guess cakes are more contam resistant than a not fully colonized casing layer.
I hope someone can give me inputs on this.
