long term storage dried without a refrigerator
    #18422813 - 06/15/13 10:57 AM (11 years, 7 months ago)

my wife is being a real pain in the ass about my shrooms. I have powdered and capsuled them, put them in a big very dark colored herb bottle with a couple of dessicants in with them and currently have them in the freezer......well unfortunately she knows what is in the bottle and wants them gone and I am a tad concerned she is just going to toss them out one day.  I am the only one using them and figure I have about a years worth if I take 3 grams once a month. Everything I have read said you really need to keep them in the freezer when storing them that long
Leaving her is not really an option (obviously more then shroom problems going on), so I am looking for a long term storage solution that does not involve the fridge/freezer if possible.
Apparently she will be combing thru the freezer looking for anything out of place (she is expecting storm troopers to come and raid the house and it would just embarass her so...........) so "hiding" them there does not seem to be a very viable option anymore. Seems everyone would prefer me to just keep taking morphine every day because that is sooooooo much better (sarcasm of course)

I guess if need be I could buy a small refrigerator and see about hiding it in my garage somewhere, but was wondering if there were any other options besides renting an apartment just so I can use a fridge
How long would they remain as potent if I just kept them in a dark closet that is probably around 70-75 degrees ?
Any info appreciated

Go on a health kick and buy supplements, one of which is shitake supplements. Hide them in plain sight. Hopefully she won't try them herself...

This might not be the best idea though...

If kept in a cool dry place, they shouldn't lose much potency...

Or just think like a teenager again, and find some hiding spots that no one usually checks like underneath the bottom dresser drawer.

keeping them in the fridge for long term storage after drying?? really?

Just keep them in a sealed container. Tghey should last quite a long time if fully try and not exposed to much air.

Get some high proof liquor and do an alcohol extraction. Then just decant it back into the bottle. Hide in plain sight. They should be good for a few years that way at least.

just stash them in one of "your" places if u have one....fortunatly my wife only bitches about everything else besides the shrooms lmao. u already have them in a dark container, only other thing i would advise is getting sum air duster in a can and blow it in the container (spray painted black 1/4pint jar) for a few secs with the lid almost on then slap the lid on, after that as long as no light or heat and its air tight you could store those for years i would assume. whats to hurt if u just keep em and say 2-10years later u try one and it good? i use the duster method after drying if i plan on keeping them over a 6 months but this just removes the oxygen i feel is inside these dried shrooms and then i vac seal them, but hey people are different, take what you want from this.........:goat:

Air dust "in a can" is generally not air.  However, they have taken to adding "bitterants" to the formula to deter people from huffing them.  If you clean out your computer and use it like it is designed, it leave a horrible tasting residue on your hands.  Wash them before you eat wings.

Cool and dark with desiccants will do the trick.

why would you huff air in a can? surely taking the air around us and compressing it into a can, would just be like taking a very big deep breath if you huffed it.

It's not air.  It's fluorocarbons which contain no free oxygen.  The idea here is oxygen displacement, both in terms of getting high and preserving things that decay in the presence of oxygen.

A walnut-size chunk of dry ice (about 6g), put into the bottom of a container no more than 1L in volume with whatever is to be stored stacked on top of it, will accomplish much the same thing and potentially carry away some water vapor as well.  DO NOT SEAL THE CONTAINER FOR SEVERAL DAYS AFTERWARD IF USING THIS METHOD.

alot of "huffers" like it cause its a readily around and cheap- and almost gives same effects as nitrous. :goat:

If your can says it has the bitter deturrent in it then cover can with about 2 folds of dishtowel and spray through that. think about it....replace the oxygen, block light, and keep cool. the better you do these things the better the outcome

If his wife is anything like my wife, that's the worst possible way to hide them!  But as a rule, chocolates are a good idea.  Especially since they're already dried and powdered.

On a related note, always make sure they're completely dry!  I've actually seen mycelium growing through the chocolate before when some idiot just made a mushroom slurry and stirred it into a pasteurized chocolate substrate.  :facepalm3:

Wish I'd taken a picture.
