PH down in casings
    #1840306 - 08/22/03 10:46 AM (20 years, 7 months ago)

Has anyone tried using Phosphoric acid(a.k.a PH down, 9% solution) or citric acid powder diluted in their mister to adjust the ph on casings?

are you talking about the you can use in pools? i would advise against it, you're basically throwing it only over the surface and this would probably hurt growth. to keep ph level in a casing use calcium carbonate, crushed oystershell or powdered eggshells

You would want to add a base, not an acid..

That is correct. The pH scale goes from (more or less) 1 to 14 with 1 being very acidic, 7 being neutral, and 14 being very basic. As the name implies, PH Down will lower the pH, making the result more acidic, which is probably not what you want.

AFOAF used Europonic pH Raise (potassium hydroxide) to bring the water her coir was soaking in to 7.8pH. Those casings did great.
