re-drying

Hello, not a cultivation question exactly, but I figured you guys would know best. I got some dried mushrooms (just a quarter) a while ago which have, over time, softened up. They are bendy again and I don't want them to mold before I get a chance to take them. I got some damp rid, (one of these ) I was wondering if I should put this stuff in the bottom of a jar and then build a screen or somehow suspend them above the damp rid to dry them up again. I haven't done this before, I was wondering if you guys might have some suggestions about how exactly to go about re-drying these with the damprid.
Sorry if this kind of thing gets asked over and over again.
I searched this, but it seemed that most of the instructions were about how to dry a whole batch from their initial wet state. I am just curious about the best way to re-dry a small amount.

that would work fine maybe spread them out in a few jars with damp rid.
I investing in a dehydrator early on so I've never used that stuff.

put the damp rid in a coffee filter tie it up with a rubber band and put it in a bag with the mushies and seal it up. the jar idea would work fine to ive poored damp rid in the bottom of a jar put a coffee filter over and then the mushies. i like bags more but just a personal preference

Don't bother with that. Throw them in your crisper in your fridge for a day or 2. They should dry back up.
Once they do, take some of that DampRid and fold it up so it's under 2 layers of paper towel. Tape that together and throw it in the bag with your mushies. You won't have this problem anymore.

I don't understand how this works because the damprid literally turns into water after absorbing moisture. The only way to dry it properly with damprid is to suspend the mushrooms above the damprid.
I've always gone with silica over damprid because of the fact that damprid turns into water. Once it turns into water the mushrooms will just reabsorb it.
You can find dehydrators for relatively cheap. Damp rid will get the job done for a few grows but you should really just invest in that dehydrator sooner than later if you're in this for the long haul.

my mushrooms are already fairly dry when i do it. a little bendy. i use allot of damp rid in the pouch and it always starts to harden on me before it actually turns to liquid so i just toss it when it starts to harden. never any problems and a big enough pouch will run for awhile.
silica would deffinetally be better but sometimes you just gotta work with what you have.
a dehydrater is still best if you can afford one ime presto dehydros are reasonably priced and have temp controls and a timer

forgot to mention with the damp rid bags i use i take extra care to keep the pouch away from the mushies uaually keep it to one side and the mushies to the other and fold it so they cant touch at all

Thanks for the replies. I will get a dehydrater if I cultivate my own. I was just trying to get them back to cracker dry because they were getting bendy. I ended up just putting them in front of my space heater for about a half hour and they dried up again. Then I put them in a plastic bag, in a jar, and put some damp rid tied up in a coffee filter in the jar also to store them.

the nesco went up to about 150 and didnt have a fan built in. i like to keep it at 125 to 150 mine goes up to 165 but i dont feel comfortable with that much heat. old habits lol. the temp control kinda goes side by side with the timer. and i wanted a timer so i didnt have to watch it at all. just set and forget. kinda like the aa 75x ive been dreaming about...
be sure to keep that pouch away from your mushies just to be on the safe side if you put some loose seran wrap on the bottom of the lid with the pouch inside and poke some holes in it a little to small for the bag to fall out but big enough to breath itll help seperate the two easily

You do more damage drying them slowly than using more heat.

The electric AA's are definitely not set and forget. You have to cut it to high to get to 1 PSI, then flip the valve, then watch it till it gets to desired pressure, then adjust to stabilize. Once you get there, the timer on it only makes a ding (and not a particularly loud one either) it doesn't turn the power off.
The main advantage of the giant electric sterilizers is really that you can use them indoors. Most stoves won't handle a 941, so you have to do them outdoors on a propane burner.

As mentioned, a food dehydrator is awesome. What ever method you use to dry them with you could always buy a Cap-M-Quik capsule kit and put your dried and ground up mushrooms in capsules. Capsules prevent the powder from being exposed to moisture and air. It also makes taking them easy, quick and tasteless.
A coffee/spice grinder is excellent for grinding up mushrooms into a fine powder.
If you plan on keeping your capsules for a long time then put them in a container in the freezer. Add some small bags of desiccant to your container to prevent condensation.

Interesting.
How many grams or part thereof do you end up with per cap?

I saw a chart which showed that sized 000 capsules hold up to 1.3 grams of material but this depends on the substance. When using finely ground mushroom powder it can vary a little, especially if you don't press down hard on the tamper. I've weighed various capsules that I've made and I'll usually get them to be about 1 gram. You can get them to weigh a little more or less depending on how well you prepare them.
