Good source for trays?
    #1841904 - 08/22/03 09:38 PM (13 years, 3 months ago)

You wouldn't think that this would be that hard, but I've tried all the usual suspects for finding decent trays for growing bulk in, like walmart, online, kmart, etc... I was wondering what solutions people had come up with for cheap, sturdy, and opaque plastic growing trays?

I've used aluminum tins before, but they corrode too quickly to be usefully reusable.

What sizes to people generally go for, and where have you found them?

Sky's the limit, really. Probably starting relatively small-ish (10-20 1'x2' trays) and working up to 1-200.

But cheap resuable trays are, oddly, the biggest stumbling block at the moment. I'm beginning to consider dog dishes from PetSmart.

i use dishpans, (the white plastic tubs you wash dishes in) they are in the laundry section of my wallmart
they are very big, white, and sturdy
and they only cost like 1-2$

I thought about those, but they seemed too deep. Maybe not, then.

What sort of depth do you use for substrate/casing? Do you do grain/straw or just grain? What sort of casing?

I'm curious, mostly because I don't know that many other bulk growers.

most nurseries and garden shops (especially this time of year) sell those black plastic seedling trays, try and look for the ones that are non-compartmented they're usually dirt cheap, reusable and disposable.

Well when i ever i hear the word bulk i think of LARGE containers like 4 feet by 4 feet by 10~18 inches...... but thats just me i guess

In general, I'm too paranoid about contams to throw all my eggs in such large baskets. One step at a time, I suppose. I don't really have an underground growing facility or live in the netherlands, so...

all my bulk grow have been done in a number of small (well not really small, but nowhere as big as kuSsH's preference) rubbermaid roughneck containers. they're like smallish two gallon containers that are deep and come with lids, got em at wal-mart.
