First grow. 90% colonized for a week+ let's discuss options.

Shot up 10 jars pf tek BRF style 3 weeks ago. Great growth in the first 2 weeks, 85% there, beautifully white myc. In the last week though, maybe only 5% growth leaving the bottom uncolonized. So I'm starting to get concerned the jars have stalled. In my haste, I flipped them over. Still no contams. If I were to guess I think my jars are too hydrated. The myc is very dense in some jars, and has water droplets and appears decently wet.
So my plan is to wait 1 more week and A: birth cakes SGFC or B: Spawn to 50/50
In regards to plan B, I have Coir, Verm, and a 120qt tub(I was originally planning to use as SGFC) is this too big? How much coir/Verm would I use for 10 1/2 pints of spawn?
My other concern is greater risk of contams for plan B, obviously.
Thank you for all your help.

When I tried pftek cakes I bought them online and some of the jars were not mixed well, they had patches of pure vermiculite that had no hope of colonizing. Did you check for that?

Nope it's all uncolonized BRF mixture. I made my jars myself, so I have a Verm layer too that's uncolonized.

Often the verm layer does colonize, and that indicates the cakes were made too wet. If the verm isn't colonized, just wait another two weeks for them to finish up and consolidate. When birthing, you're going to wash them under the faucet anyway, so that will wash away any uncolonized areas before rolling in verm or using as spawn.
Bear in mind, if you flipped the jars over, leave them that way. Turning them back will lead to a high incidence of contamination because the verm filter has been disturbed. RR

The Verm layer is intact, not colonized. So wait two weeks and hope that last 5-10% colonizes? For a total of 5 weeks?
I will under no circumstance flip again.
I guess I'm getting impatient. I was thinking of moving to WBS in the meantime or doing another batch of BRF cakes. What would you advise? I'm just trying to learn from my mistakes rather than repeating them.

I'd at the very least start reading up on wbs. (Bulk)
I'm playing with edibles for right now so really didn't have a choice, but from everything I have read it just seems that grains are not only easier, but will give you faster colonization times and a lot better options for continued propagation. (G2G/agar)
I've never made a cake, but you might as well get your feet wet with it while waiting for your cakes to finish.

I have read a bit about bulk already. Tell me if I get the basics wrong, I've read a bunch of different teks so it's a bit jumbled.
1. Prepare WBS remove sunflower seeds/rinse etc. 2. Put in quart jars with tyvek and poly fill/silicone self healing port, coffee filters 3. Sterilize quart jars 90 mins 4. Weight to cool few hours 5. Shoot em up ?? Shake Wait for 100% 6. Prepare 50/50 substrate put it in monotub ?? 10 days 7. Check for Colonization Do you need to consolidate tubs for a week? 8. Fruit
If you could point me to some more must read WBS teks too I'd appreciate it.

I learned something new today.

Also, Maitre, check out my sig for a lot of teks about bulk using coir and WBS

I skimmed through your teks quickly and a few things came to mind.
I couldn't find your tek on inoculating the jars. Do I need to make a LC for WBS? Can I not use a syringe?
Spawn to substrate ratio is 1:2 correct? Or 1:3 even. Since quart jars are sold in 12, I would shoot up 4 of them and could use the other 8 for substrate/pasteurization?

Don't use a lc, or at the very least don't attempt to start out with one... you can nock jars through self healing ports and can later do g2g transfers (and use agar eventually as well)
Ratio in most of the current teks are ~1:1.5 - 1:2
No need to consolidate tubs
Lids will ues either sfd, ez felt, tyvek, or polysilicon for filters but not more than one at once...
Sry its a bit jumbled but I think k that should help...
(Realistically you can pretty much follow franks teks to a t and have your bulk grow down)

Ah, yea it doesn't seem much more complicated than PF, about the same honestly.
How many jars can 10cc shoot up aprox, or how many should I shoot for? I'm gonna use my "bonus" Thai strain I got for free.

You could likely just do 12 quart jars with a syringe, however if you just start one or two as masters, then g2g with them you will have most of your syringe to just save for a later date. (Or if your really going big time I would suppose you could knock up a master once a week for 10 weeks and g2g from each as the colonizers... lol.. that would get you well into fruiting or close to it (for agar work) and a literal fuck ton of shrooms on the way )
