mycelium generation question

So I'm thinking about starting lc and agar technique bit I'm confused as to what constitutes a new generation. For example, starting a master lc with ms would be generation number one.using that culture to start a grain jar would be generation number 2 ?? If I were to then use that grain jar for g2g transfers would those all be considered generation 3?? Also starting from the gen 1 master lc and inoculation more lc from that master would the new lc be gen 2?? Then going from the gen 2 lc to grain would make those grain jars gen 3?? If someone could clarify this for me I would appreciate it. I've heard that making a master will last indefinitely bit following the reasoning I just used an indefinite master culture wouldn't even be possible would it?

A grain to grain transfer or an LC to LC transfer is not a generation. A generation is to germinate spores, grow mushrooms and take a sporeprint. Germinate those spores and the next generation begins.

No at some point the mycelium will have aged too much become weak, perform poorly or just succumb to contamination during fruiting.
Theres only so long cell division can go on before it starts slowing down and getting weak. I dont know how long though.
Im sure you can do quite a few g2g transfers before that becomes an issue, and with 1 jar becoming 10 jars and 10 jars becoming 100 jars.
i cant see you ever being able to do enough g2g jars for it to become a problem.

Can that happen with a master slant or are those prepared in such a way that they are resilient to mycelium weakening
