why is it that all the mason jars i find that are supposed to be 8oz say that they hold like ten or something? and like all the 4oz ones i find say they hold 6oz. also if i used 1/4th pint jars like and just doubled the amount like if i did sixteen of them would i get as much at havest as if i did 8 half pintt jars

8 oz jars hold a bit more, because of the top of the jar.
As long as there's no shoulders on the jars, use whatever you want. I don't recommend going above 1/2 pints with cakes, however, due to stalling.
ConcreteWaves - you're not loading your PC right or you're using different sized jars than standard canning jars.

Your mycelium should be fine. Fine verm is what is recommended, however. Yes. Tin foil will work as a lid.

I usually put my foil under the ring n screw it on and i use two layers, i inoculate through the first layer and put the next layer of foil on then i screw on the lid but from what i here u can put it under or over the lid i think its a matter of preference and since u dont have the inner part id put it under the ring just dont screw it on to tight or it could rip the foil

I inocculated everything from small plastic containers which colonized awrsome to 1/2 pint jars to point jars to cups with foil lids. Don't think it really matters. Some just take longer than others.
