Hello to one and all, here at the Shroomery
Last year, I won a Shroomery contest, and received my prize: a syringe of my choice. I selected B+. I gave the syringe to an FOAF, because I have absolutely no idea what to do with a spore syringe My FOAF inoculated four half pint jars of wbs with about 1/3 of the syringe. After the jars were completely colonized - about 10 days - he spawned the jars to some coco coir mixed with a bit of coffee grounds, set up in a mono tub. Four days later, with the substrate fully colonized, the mono tub was set to fruiting conditions. First flush, 10 days later:

First flush, harvested:

A small Styrofoam cooler was used for the mono tub ... holes cut along the bottom and top, and covered with sterile gauze ... large area in lid cut out and covered with clear plastic.

Ummm ... ya ... went camping for five days, so wasn't able to catch these guys before they started dropping spores
re. prints ... After growing several successful batches, starting with verm cakes, and working my way up to bulk, mono tub, etc ... I started experiencing some pretty horrible contamination issues. I stopped growing for many years, as I couldn't find a way around the problem. This was my first stab at it in many years ... spurred on by my syringe win At this point, I would not be comfortable making prints in my home, as I'm worried that they would be contaminated

Whats your exact tek? I wonder what was contaminating in your area? I double or triple bleach spray. Vacuum the day before. Windows closed the day of inoculation. PC at least an hour. Use a sterile fridge for incubation. Gloves and hand sanitizer at reach. Do you flame the needle?
What type of mold did you have?

In the beginning, I did everything possible to make sure that contamination did not set in ... sterilizing everything with PC, alcohol, H2O/peroxide mixture for spritzing, etc, etc, etc. I did become more relaxed in the sterile process after a number of successful grows ... started cutting corners here and there, if I didn't think it was really needed. My guess is that it was the lack of basic sterility that ushered in the contaminations. The substrates developed different kinds of mold, including lipstick and trich. Each time, I attempted to use various methods to remove the contamination and forge onward with the grow, but that never really worked.

Not sure if you dropped the foaf shit on purpose or are just that bad at trying to keep up a pointless ruse.. either way thanks as it's not going to help you with the law and makes for an annoying read...
As a quick question what is your drying method? (Just hoping you have a fan on that rack, as they likely won't dry otherwise... Also must peeps I see using a rack and fan then use a desiccant afterwards)
Anyway those are nice nice large shroomer even if a bit dark (spores) for my tastes... Hope you get a great second flush.

The FOAF thing was a bit of a shroom cultivator joke. Sorry that it annoyed you.
I used to use a food dehydrator, set on the lowest setting, which worked beautifully. The dehydrator broke a couple of years ago, so I'm fan drying, then storing in an air tight containers, with desiccant. I always store with desiccant. I don't mind the spore droppings in the least ... I think it looks very pretty

First flush complete: 33g, dried. Substrate has been dunked and set to fruiting conditions again ... so happy that I haven't seen any sign of contamination (knock on wood!!) yet
