IMO you really start to see benifits when u start doing bulk (poo or straw)

casing is a prerequisite to bulk, so learn NOW
when i used to do BRF with mazzys, they were small, even my biggest BRF shrooms are DWARFS compared to the SMALLEST shrooms from my bulk runs...

LEARN CASING NOW

use popcorn with poo/straw, outdoors if possible. thats probably the easiest way to get a good amount...

I have seen exactly what you are asking.
Two tubs, 18w X 24l X 18h.

+-6" deep pasteurized straw.
2 quarts colonized grain per tub, same straing, PF clone.

1st tub cased with coir/verm/calcisand. Yeild after 8 weeks: 1/2 LB dry.

2nd tub, not cased. Yeild after 8 weeks: 1/4 lb dry.

1st tub had 6 flushes. 2nd tub had 3.

So as you can see, twice the output from the cased tub of straw. This is due to the nature of casings, which keeps moisture in and provides an alternate source of water to maturing mushrooms. 2nd tub dried out and stopped yielding way before the 8 weeks time, which is the time at which the 1st tub contaminated. 2nd tub never contam'd.

Casing is easier to maintain and usually results in more fruits (although a properly done cake setup should yeild about the same amount) It's really more of a maintenance issue with me and more forgiving for the average newbie. After you get that down you can move on to bulk, then you'll really see the difference.
