Re-use Jars that never colonized?
    #18409692 - 06/12/13 05:35 PM (11 years, 7 months ago)

I know it's a bad idea to try and clean out infected/mold jars and use them, but what about inoculated jars that never spawned?

Several jars I inoculated have been sitting there for months and never made any progress.

Is it safe to clean those out and try again?

i just open them outside throw them in the bushes, add some soap and clean them out in the garage..

then put them in the dish washer and start back at it like normal   nothing too complicated

Not endorsing this practice, especially for a new grower but, I think it illustrates that reusing the jar itself is fine.

I've reused jars that never did anything and jars that have been contaminated. If you are going to pressure cook your jars again anyway, then all you gotta do is properly clean them first.

I'd recommend opening them outdoors, chucking all the grains or w/e that didn't get colonized or had contaminated, then I wash them out with bleach water, then wash them with a dishwasher or by hand with dish soap.
