Contam or just uncolonized substrate? *PICS*
    #18408354 - 06/12/13 12:38 PM (11 years, 7 months ago)

I was wondering if this looks like a contamination or just looks like some sub that hasn't been colonized yet. When I was preparing my bulk substrate (coir/verm/gypsum), I noticed there were some chucks of coir that hadn't fully been broken up so I did my best at breaking them up, but maybe that's a piece that hadnt been fully hydrated. It's been 17 days since I added my WBS spawn to my bulk sub so I feel like it should be fully colonized by now which is what concerns me. At day 10, I checked and this patch looked about the same as it does now, maybe a little less colonized.

What do you guys think? Should I go ahead and fruit or continue to wait it out?

You think I could try to maybe cut out the contaminated area with a sterilized blade or would that be too risky?

17 days.... could it be due not introducing FAE when it was needed?

No I don't think that was it because I checked at day 10 and I saw the area of uncolonized (contaminated?) substrate so I gave it some more time to fully colonize.

Also I read this thread so I thought giving it more time might work out in my favor: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/15181139#15181139

You think keeping this monotub near another uncontaminated tub would risk contamination? of course the holes have been filled with polyfill but do you think its necessary to completely separate them to different rooms?

Yeah. I'd prefer to keep them in the same room but I can keep them separate if necessary. Also do you recommend misting before you see pins? Im just thinking they might've dried out a bit after 20 days

if you can't see beads of moisture on the surface then yes i would give it a heavy mist

I see some beads of moisture in both tubs but only towards the middle of the subs - about an 8" diameter has visible moisture...all around the edges it appears to be dry. No pins yet but it's only been about 5 days since I introduced to fruiting conditions. You think I should mist?

If possible (i.e. if you have access to a yard, farm, garden, etc... that is fairly private) you ought to make an outdoor bed, using the contaminated tub as spawn. You can find info on how to do this pretty easily on this site with the search function.
