India says they'll send 17,000 troops, but only with a UN resolution.
Only about 15,000 non-US troops are currently in Iraq.

I don't wish any ill will towards our troops, but the US should have to get them selves out of this jam. They got themselves into it.

Including about a hundred from the Dominican Republic. At least we know how to put up with power outages.

"but the US should have to get them selves out of this jam." I don't know about that actually..... I'd be very pleased if India took over the whole recovery operation actually - they've already got the oil flowing over there so have completely lost interest and drive

No, no, no, no, this would mean the oil and the support facilities needed to get it out of the ground and processed would be up for grabs among all sorts of companies not connected with the U.S. military industrial complex. He just wants the U.N. to help out in the areas of the country where no profit can be made.

We should make no money off the rebuilding of Iraq even though we paid for the cost of the war?

Everything is not going to shit Alex. They would like to lessen the amount of American troops in the country, and have the ability to rotate them more, that is all. Most of the troops that come into the country would most likely be used in the southern parts of Iraq that are already fairly well secured.

Why would it? It would simply decrease the number of american troops being killed, replacing them by indians or australians etc.

Doesn't set a very good precedent does it. Conduct a naked war of aggression in defiance of international opinion and then reap the rewards? That sound sensible to you?

Yeah it does actually. The 'rewards' are hardly worthwhile of course. At most, a small portion of the money spent will be made back. Why should French companies benefit, when they played no part in the war? Americans died, and they should get any 'rewards'. The cost of rebuilding is going to cost American taxpayers a lot of money. If a percentage of that can be made up by the rebuilding I have no problem with that.

You're right there is no point in having control over the most valuable resource in the country, the U.S. will just let the U.N. come in and allow France's and other nations' prior contracts to be honored...

no. we shouldn't. we shouldn't have spent any money on this war in the first place. it was unnecessary. and we definitely shouldn't profit from it.

Well since I don't really care what the UN thinks, the unsanctioned part does not effect me at all. The point is someone is going to get the rebuilding contracts. Why should we give them to the French? They have not helped the Iraqis at all?

The 'rewards' are hardly worthwhile of course Strategic dominance in the middle east "hardly worthwhile"? Are you serious? Americans died What do you want, a medal? American INVADED for christsakes. And the people who died arn't going to get anything out of it either. How many oil executives have died? and they should get any 'rewards' No country that aggressively invades another in defiance of international opinion should get anything whatsoever. This is basic common sense.

To the victoy goes the spoils. We spent our money and our soldiers lives to oust Saddam, so we and those that helped us will be getting the rebuilding contracts. That is the way it is. It will probably benefit your country to, so quit your bitching. All this oil executive shit is getting somewhat tiresome. That will represent a relatively small part of the rebuilding.
