Damaged Mycelium

When mycelium gets damaged it will turn blue.. then does it grow a covering over the damaged area? Sort of like a fluffy covering of mycelium?

Thanks

nope...it becomes a scar...they say nothing will grow out of the damaged area but a friend's mycologist colleague has seen hyphal knots grow over the blue...those hyphal knots didn't pin though...

yeah, bruising is normal and the mycelia will eventually recover. If your humidity is too high and especially after dunking the cake will take on a bluish hue.

because I can see the damaged areas but a fluffy covering of mycelium grew over it.. I threw it out thinking it was bad but when I took apart the cake the insides were perfectly fine and I realized it was only brusing and that it might have been a protective layer.

my RH is around 96%

Sounds like the bruising was pretty bad, and the mycelium started to patch up the affected areas. From your info I'd say the cake was just fine. rH may be a bit on the high side for fruiting, aim for something like 80% or so when using cakes.
