AGR2RBG 5-30
it seems too wet, myc growth is slow but not stalled. last i've seen similar i lost the jar to bacteria from the starchy popped grains.
what do you think? Try and salvage a healthy grain back to agar and try for smaller grain amounts? 300ml worth in this jar. 6/10 4 sides pictured

That almost looks like the start of wet rot, but I don't know for sure what allenii mycelium looks like.

Is that the same jar? If so I think I see lots of popped grains, if not all but the first jar look OK . I have also lost jars to popped grains and regretfully toss them now before inoculation.

Single grain to agar works. How long has it been? Doesn't look too bad to me but its not always easy to tell from a picture.
I would just shake it. Looks like the myc is willing to leap.

Well, some other grain attempts in the past that showed these symptoms ended up turning to shit so it had me worried
Pics are each side of the same jar
Transferred a few healthy grains back to agar
baby steps

My p allenii project that I am working on was painfully slow for me on grain. They will not gain any speed until they are put to wood. Even then it's a pretty slow process. Also do not expect any dense growth on grains either. Anyway they look alright to me I wouldn't mess with them unless I was sure they were fucked. Really its all gonna go outside in the end anyway I will try and get some pics up later.

my allenii went great on grains for some reason my cyanofibs/libs/baeo's were slow as fuck though! my suntzii is taking off on agar right now as well! did you get alot of rhizzo growth out of your allennii?

If the exterior of your grains are too wet, the species won't matter

My allenii were very tomentose on grains, but got more rhizo once tranferred to woodchip spawn.

Mostly hickory with some aspen shavings and bits of cardboard and shredded eggcartons.

The cool thing about wood lovers is even if you get contams or bacteria its not over. Just put that shit outside in pots. Layer chips and grains and watch the myc grow and contams fuck off. I had some mean green in one of my allenii jars. I did what I said and now I have s huge pot of allenii wood chip spawn. And if its not winter , I have all chip spawn outdoors. It benefits big time from the fresh air. I also don't bother pasterizing the chips anymore. Just straight grain spawn layeted in chips. Then from pots i grab spawn to noc up other things and keep putting newchips in the pot.

I agree. The only reason I sterilized the woodchip spawn jars was because in Feb it was cold as fuck and I wanted to get a good amount of wood spawn going. But when I spawned to some large planters outside in spring, all I did was soak the chips, no pasteurization, no sterile tek.

I'll keep that in mind if these jars get any worse - i've about 35-gal worth of beech chips to work with, and a new park in town that chipped about 30 maples, beechs, and oaks for mulch pathways

Well the G2A transfer grew both bacteria and mycelium so I decide to ditch both jars and dishes at the mounds of mulch at mentioned park. Set up 4 new agar cultures and will be going with smaller grain amounts in 1/2 pint tall boys then G2G+Wood this round. Thanks for the feedback guys.
