Air Travel With Mushrooms - Safest Method? (US to Jamaica)

I'm going to be traveling to Jamaica in a couple months, and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with traveling with mushrooms in any form (whether they be dried whole fruits, powdered, tincture, or goo).
I'd like to take some mushrooms with for the trip. I would think tripping on the beach around sunset would be awesome. I'd like to take some mushroom tincture (made by extracting with 150 proof alcohol), since I feel like that's the most reliable dosing, but the goo (it's like a tootsie roll type consistency if you aren't familiar with it) may be easier to conceal.
Any advice would be appreciated. I may just skip it altogether, but if it's not incredibly dangerous, it may make for one hell of an experience.

Put the dried mushrooms in a blender until they are powdery-fine.
Buy a bottle of echinacea. Empty out the pills, and put some of the power in with the mushroom power to make it green.
Put the green mushroom powder back in the pills, put the pills in the bottle. Make sure all the pills look the same.
No one is going to test your echinacea for drugs unless it looks real sketchy....And it's a reasonable herbal supplement to be carrying when visiting a foreign country.

Buy 3 bottles so it seems less sketchy and better your chances that if they do decide to check, the odds of them picking the bottle containing the mush are 1/3 instead of just 1/1.

I think three bottles of Echinacea would be sketchier than one. Also, you want them all to look the same.

Alan, are you suggesting replace all the pills in the bottle with the mushroom capsules? I would have to assume this is what you mean, otherwise do you have a method for telling them apart?

Yes, all the pills should be replaced. It is important that they all look the same.

I think that definitely sounds like a pretty secure method.
By the way, I came across a post of yours from a few years ago called "A Beginner's Guide to Traveling with Drugs" and found it quite helpful, so thank you again

I would honestly just send it in the mail ahead of time, safest method IMHO.

Then you have to deal with Jamaican customs. Customs has a lot more time to inspect each mail parcel than they do to inspect travelers bags. Tourists expect to land and be out of customs in 30 - 45 minutes. That means that they only have a very small amount of time to spend on each bag, and would never be able to dig through all the bags for small amounts of drugs.
Mailing herbal supplements could be kind of sketchy, seems like something that you should just bring in your bag along with some vitamins and granola and stuff.

Well everything went well. I ended up wrapping a piece of goo in a Tootsie Roll wrapper and just carrying it in my pocket. Honestly, if you didn't have an actual Tootsie Roll to compare it to and didn't smell it, it would have been hard to tell the difference between what I had and the candy. I wasn't questioned once going into Jamaica, but got the extra search where they open your bags in front of you when I was coming back into the states (thankfully I had already eaten the goo and the bud in Jamaica is definitely not worth bringing back).
Anyway, if you ever get a chance to trip on a tropical beach, I highly suggest you take that opportunity

I'll be in Baja in a couple weeks... **strokes chin**
I've never crossed the Mexican border before. I wonder how thorough they are...

Not sure, but the general feeling I got going through customs was that it would be a lot more difficult to get things into the US than out. Although, I can say that I'm confident I could have brought that goo back home with me, even having to empty my bags on the way back in.
I'd say if it's small, inconspicuous, and you're carrying it on you, you'll probably be fine. They never once checked my wallet or shirt pockets

It varies. At Mexican customs they make you press a button, and it randomly lights a green or red light. If it goes red, they search your bags. I have crossed the border 6 times and got 5 green lights and one red. When I got the red light they spent about 30 seconds searching my bags and let me go through. As long as your drugs are very small and well hidden, or don´t look like drugs, you won´t get caught. If you are bringing drugs into mexico also make sure to carry at least $200 cash to bribe the people if they find them. If you carry money, drugs are almost legal in Mexico. If you are broke, they´ll throw you in jail for small amounts. I never drive anywhere in Mexico without at least 1000 pesos in my wallet, and 2000 pesos if I am with my stoner friends.

That depends on where you are going. If you are going to Austrailia or NZ, prepare to be searched very well. I have been through US customs 8 times, 6 of those times coming from Mexico, and have never been searched at all. They just ask me if I have any food, I say no, and they have not even looked in my bags.
US customs usually has just a few people on duty searching, and hundreds of people get off the plane at the same time, so they don´t search very many at all. If it´s a holiday and it´s late at night they often don´t have anyone searching bags and just let everyone go through.

Ahh yes, Alan, I would agree it probably depends where you're traveling. I probably should have said that; I think I was focusing more on travel to the Caribbean, but I suppose there may be countries there as well that would be likely to search you coming in.
Alan, without being too specific, would you be willing to share any of your demographic information? I don't travel frequently, but I wouldn't think I look like someone who would be singled out for a search like that; I'm in my late 20's, Caucasian, and was dressed well. I was traveling with a few other people as well, none of whom I would have suspected to raise any flags. Anyway, that's about all the identifying information I'd like to give.
As an additional note - I read something a few years after 9/11 about how this man had "SSSS" printed on his boarding pass, and his wife didn't, and he got pulled for a a search while his wife did not. While going through customs, I noticed a sticker on top of the little UV detector thing that said "SSSS" Anyone know what that's all about? I checked my boarding pass under a black light and didn't see any "SSSS"

I am 35, white, from California. There are some recent pictures of me if you google image search my username.

It´s always good to be dressed well, though you can also just wear a tshirt and then it looks like you are going on vacation. Decent pants and shoes probably help a bit. Basically you want to make it look like you work for a living, rather than sell drugs for a living.

Yes, the SSSS means extra search. They usually spend about 30 seconds looking through your stuff.

Do you know if the "SSSS" is only visible under UV light? Is it on your boarding pass? I couldn't find it on either my boarding pass or the other person's pass who was traveling with me.
Also, if you're the person I think you are in those pictures, I would have thought myself to be just as inconspicuous as you (subtract 5 years and shave and we could be brothers), but for whatever reason, I still got the impression I was incredibly suspect.
