Big browns should be there into January I believe. Caught a huge brown a few years ago and there was ice on the river and it snowed 6 inches on us. Fun times. Its so bitter cold out there. But hooking into 20 pound fish is worth it. Best fishing is after the salmon run going for steelhead and browns imo but its still fun going up for the salmon run. Its just hard getting the Kings to strike and there are a lot of people fishing Haven't taken any pix since my last camera broke. But I'll see what i can dig up from in the past.

Been running around like a chook with it's head cut off this arvo. Installed pretty much the whole combo unit this afternoon, just have to tidy up the excess cable and hook it up and it's done. Might be able to do that tomorrow and take it out for a test run on Saturday. I wasn't going to fish at all this weekend, then I decided to fish a half day on Sunday. Now I am considering taking it out both days.
Mrs. Jordy is gunna hate me soon, but then again she came out on Sunday and is coming again this Sunday. I think she quite likes our new toy

Jordy said: chaos is an understatement, especially with Blue Marlin bites. We had a big Blue around the 500lb mark smash a lure in February, strip about 250 yards of line off the reel and then started jumping towards the boat. We slammed the boat into gear to keep the line tight and were doing about 15 knots. In less than a minute the fish went from 250 yards behind us to 100 yards ahead of us whilst we were still moving, lost the fish due to slack line. We calculated that the fish would've been doing around 45mph underwater. Complete insanity...
I believe every bit!! Amazing fish. We had one probably closer to 300 pile up On the short left rigger and he came straight back across the spread, before we could clear the lines....Man we had four 80w's singing the same tune! Talk about a mess!! We eventually had to cut two of the lines, and we were able to get it sorted out and the fish was tagged and released. it was really awesome, I watched it all from the tower. He ate, felt the hook, and completely destroyed my spread, all in about 20 seconds or less. Mayhem!!

Yeah I know what ya mean I went to Elk creek in PA and did great temps in the low 60s so I go back the next day dressed the same and a front came through and snowed 2 feet on me in my jean jacket standing in slush up to my waist It took like 6 00 shot to get my flies down. But I did still manage 6 or 7 fish before I packed it in.

We're all still learning Shroomhuntsman. For example, it has just cost me about $1500 to learn that the safety requirements from state to state here in Australia are quite different. Damn water police, this puts my boat out of action for a while now

Don't feel too bad, it's the off season here and all I am catching is squid hahahaha. Although there was a lot of Yellowfin Tuna around the 150lb mark and a Blue Marlin of 300lb caught yesterday off Sydney. Could be an early start to the season, there's a big temp break off Sydney that should carry a few billfish. It's making me start to itch already

Not a personal catch, but a report from my gamefishing club. Usually this time of year the water is cold and there is very little pelagic life around. However over the last 6-8 days there has been a strip of warm water that trickled it's way off Sydney and has held some red hot action. Boats getting Blue, Black and Striped Marlin, Yellowfin Tuna, Mahi Mahi, all the summer season species at pretty much the wrong time of year.
One of the local boats got into a couple Blue Marlin, including this beast weighing 626lb. Unfortunately the fish died during the fight and the guys weren't able to revive it. The angler was pretty stoked at his first Blue Marlin - that's a quality fish you don't see very often!!

flat1, we get Cobia here in Australia as well. They have a tendency to come up reasonably easy and then when they hit the surface they go spastic. Do your cobes do the same thing?
I remember when I was a teen and we caught what would have been a new Aussie record cobe whilst fishing a bait school for Marlin, the fish was just over the 100lb mark. Wish I still had a picture of that fish!!

they do that sometimes, it seems like they dont even know that they are hooked, but once they figure it out, they go nuts! and thats a biggun if he was close to 100lb, around here we call any fish over a hundred a "tub." my best is a 67lb beast caught near navarre beach,fl. we get some studs here bro, but doesnt the world record come from australia? 132 or somethin like that? i would love to have a shot at one that big!

Quite possibly, my guess is it would have been from South West Rocks. That's where we got our big fella and there seems to be a big population of beast Cobes there. It was a line class record at that point in time, although we were actually a little more disappointed that it wasn't a Marlin!! Hahaha
I'm way more interested in Australia's Marlin fishery than anything else, there aren't many places in the world where you can get a grand slam!!

We don't get White Marlin here, they are limited to the Atlantic from what I know about White Marlin. A grand slam here in Australia is 3 different billfish species in one day, so our options for that are Blue, Black and Striped Marlin, Sailfish, Broadbill and Shortbill Spearfish. The last 2 on that list are not common when guys get grand slams though. Australia does have a pretty special Marlin fishery, #1 IMO.
I have always wanted to fish Cabo San Lucas, would be a dream come true for me. I remember reading about a boat tagging 180 billfish in one day there. I'm looking to do next season up at Cairns for the Giant Black Marlin. Have done it once before and whilst we didn't manage to tag a grander, we did see a fish of around 1200b smash a 40lb skip bait and tear across the ocean. Will never forget that

Oh and a tip for your first Black Marlin - they are stubborn as hell. Don't be surprised if you do 4 hours on 50lb gear on a fish of less than 300lb.

That would be cool. When I have the dough and the time I travel to the outer banks. Since I'm usually shorebound Most of my fishing is in the surf or sound with flyrods. I hardly ever use casting or spinning gear anymore Though a 30 t0 forty lb cobia or king from a pier are tough customers on 12 to 20 lb test.
