Nice squid what you catch it on, a snagging jig or a bucktail ?

Not sure what the terminology is over there for it, but we just call them squid jigs here. It's like a prawn or fish imitation with the barbs at the back.

Yea those are snagging jigs the simple ones are pretty much a bunch of small finish nails cast into lead cylinders and painted a bright color, usually red

Haven't had much time to go diving lately with fall semester back in session. Went for a quick dive yesterday and nabbed a decent sized zebra perch. Made some excellent fish tacos :peace:

Went out again yesterday, caught around our bag limit (20 squid) but only took home half of them. Got my PB squid yesterday as well, the photo is very deceptive but just the body was nearly 16 inches long. Unfortunately the ruler I had was only 16 inches long so I couldn't get a full measurement!! I think the squid may have been a little horizontal in this picture which makes it look smaller.

Interesting facts about the squid species: they are probably the fastest growing and one of the shortest lived animals on our planet. Not a single species in the squid family lives for more than 12 months, including the Giant and Colossal squids that can stretch over 30 feet long when fully grown. Their numbers in the open ocean are vast and they are cannibalistic by nature.

I wouldn't mind catching some octopi as well awesome eating though tougher than squid. You get any freshwater fishing in down there?

I've always lived close to the coast so saltwater has always been my thing. We do have some good freshwater natives, the Australian Bass has been a light tackle favourite among people in the freshwater scene (looks similar to your bass but don't grow as big). We also have rainbow and brown trout, Barramundi and the mighty Murray Cod. Murray cod have been known to eat birds off the water surface.

My best trout was a 7lb Rainbow caught in Lake Eucumbene, a few hours south west of Sydney. Best Aussie Bass was 13 inches and taken on fly in the Nepean river. Haven't caught a Murray Cod

The lack of Cod is more from only a couple attempts at them rather than no luck. Freshwater just isn't my thing, I'm much more interested in catching salty beasts with long noses that don't run out of water after peeling over 600 yards of line off the reel hahahaha

flat1, sounds like you've done a lot of what I have. Most people don't understand why we fork over tens of thousands of hard earned dollars to chase a fish, it's not until you do it that you really appreciate it.

If you like the pics then you will probably enjoy my videos as well, I have a youtube channel with a bunch of edited footage taken onboard boats I have fished on. www.youtube.com/jordythebassist

chaos is an understatement, especially with Blue Marlin bites. We had a big Blue around the 500lb mark smash a lure in February, strip about 250 yards of line off the reel and then started jumping towards the boat. We slammed the boat into gear to keep the line tight and were doing about 15 knots. In less than a minute the fish went from 250 yards behind us to 100 yards ahead of us whilst we were still moving, lost the fish due to slack line. We calculated that the fish would've been doing around 45mph underwater. Complete insanity...

In my state most of those flounders would have to be thrown back :frown:  they must be over 17 inches here.

12" here. a 17" is a nice fish around here. i do wish it would be

moved to 14" though.  this was a four person limit.  we have the

numbers to sustain harvesting the smaller fish. have you ever heard of

a jubilee?  literaly hundreds of thousands of flounder,(ranging from

fry size to full grown 10lb slabs) sting rays, crabs, shrimp and other

bottom dwellers come to the shore in search of oxygen.  you wouldnt

believe how many small ones there really are. a carpet of baby

flounder that stretches for a couple miles along the shoreline... so

we take our limits and leave the rest. and i prefer to eat the

smaller ones anyway, fried whole.  i encourage you to

google "Easters shore jubilee" for more info

Sounds awesome googlin it.  Yeah with the high size limit you are lucky to get a keeper or 2 an outing.  Sometimes you get into numbers but they are usually spread out.  I'm getting geared up tying rigs for salmon and steelhead now.  But I really wanna get to the coast and spend some alone time surf fishing some striped bass.  Going to Salmon river NY for the fall run next week.  Its been picking up slow n steady like.
