Is it possible to fruit with contams and if so will the product be dangerous to eat??

I've been trying to research this and it's still unclear. What will happen if I try and go through with it?? Is it possible to fruit something that will make you sick or have severe/negative physiological results???

A contaminated substrate can still produce healthy fruits, that are safe to eat.
Unless the fruit itself is obviously contaminated, you can assume it is safe to eat.
Mushrooms do not absorb any of the contaminations from the substrate.

So how do you tell if the fruit is contaminated?? Also what are the potential risks of eating a contaminated fruit body??

If it looks like a rotten mushroom then it is contaminated. If looks and smells like a healthy mushroom then it is not contaminated. Pretty basic.
Also, a contam substrate will fruit, a lot of times the mycelium will push pins out to get mushies up to release it's spores before losing to the contamination, but, if your jars are contaminated, fat chance that spawning them to a bulk sub will do anything but give nutes to the contamination.

Cool so your project will just fail basically. I was afraid of bad shit happening thanks.

Well, what are you trying to fruit? Are they BRF cakes, fully colonized bulk sub or are talking about spawning grain jars to bulk sub?
BRF cakes and already colonized bulk sub will probably still fruit if put into fruiting conditions, because like I said, the thing will want to get spores out before completely succumbing to infection.
If you are looking at some grain jars with an infection, it won't be a good idea to spawn those grain jars to a bulk sub.
Make sense?

Either way, letting a mold sporulate in your house greatly increases the risk of contamination for future projects.

ive opened jars after dumping them in the yard or garbage in the house. ive only so far done coir verm tek and do my buckets in the kitchen in the same room ive opened jars in. colonize and fruit in a seperate area but never got a contam and ive opened contamed jars quite a bit.

it does make sense. It's kinda like rolling the dice to see if it can even make it to the fruiting stage. Honestly I don't have alot of experience with bulk sub. Spent the majority of my time with jars so far. Got a few tubs almost fully C'd right now so I'm asking alot of questions. They are rye jars layered with straw at this point. i am in the process of switching to wbs cause of the advice of a friend. Seem to have less contams. I'm even experimenting with a tub of boiled wbs w/out PC'ing it just to see what happens. About to build a mini GE. Thanks for the insight

NP, man. I use straight WBS. It is cheaper than rye and works all the same.
For a good WBS tek, look up the one written by transcendinglife

I have way less contams w/wbs. Is that typical?? I got effed by green mold with like %25 of my rye. wbs seems to be almost impossible to get green mold. I prob need more experience though.

I even had 5 jars that didn't get PC'd that seem to be doing fine.

I'd say it is all based on your technique used.
I've had plenty of WBS contam when I was first starting to dial in my tek.
Now I usually get 1 out of 10-15 jars contaminated.

what kind of contams have you got w/wbs cause I was always getting green mold with rye?? I just recently found my first "black something" in my wbs.

only in one jar though. I am suspicious of a few other J's but I have so fucking many that I stopped shaking them and now I don't know if the %5 stall that I have in some are bacteria/contams or just a result of not shaking. I suppose I'll find out soon enough.

The only contam I have ever gotten was the bacillus bacteria, known as wet spot or sour rot something of that sort.

It shouldn't make a difference, especially with mold contamination. There may have been something else different when you were working with rye causing the higher contamination rate- filter, technique, inoculant.

Wow, that's more than 10% contamination rate! You should definitely review something you're doing. You should be seeing more like 1 contaminated jar in 100 or 150, not 10 or 15.

how many jars is that based on ? 10? 20?
Mold contamination problems in grain jars are more likely coming from other sources since molds are killed quite easily at steam sterilisation temps. So with 15psi temps im pretty sure that any molds are dead.
